First copy from Amazon - damaged. Second copy from Amazon - damaged. Just glad I finally have a Ring doorbell so I can watch the delivery drivers toss it to my door from 7-8 feet away.

That sucks! Luckily, I've had no issues with Amazon drivers so far... knock on whatever. I'm sure you get all kinds of workers from conscientious to indifferent just like with USPS, UPS, or FedEx.

I deal with all LTL freight lines as well as USPS, UPS, and FedEx on a daily basis. As of late they’re all poor in terms of reliability and service, but I do at least have an excellent UPS driver on my workplace route.

I did not mean that as a derogatory comment. If you are the type who grew up with this movie and a die-hard fan by all means pull the trigger. It IS better than the bluray, but it is only better by a minimum degree.

See, there's opinions and there's facts. This above is an opinion, which also happens to be incorrect since the fact is that it's not a minimal upgrade. I would expect you of all people to understand this by now, but as usual you like to stir the pot with pure malarkey.

Even the official bluray.com review agrees mostly with what I said...Oh I forgot, that too is just an opinion. Thank goodness we have this forum intentionally established to express our opinions.

You just answered yourself. I look at the facts objectively rather than subjectively. Objectively this is a significant upgrade over the BD across the board whether you're talking about resolution, compression, contrast, or HDR. Again, it's not minimal.

Your objective analysis doesn't cancel out mine or any other forum member's or movie enthusiast' subjective opinion

In this case it does, sir. I'm sorry if this offends you, but as I said earlier facts are facts.

HD-Numérique review. Good upgrade but limited by an 11 year old scan.
My Fair Lady should fair better as it was scanned in 8K and more recently(2014 I think).

My Fair Lady should look fantastic. Let's hope it's not tinkered with.

Why should a prospective buyer care about your opinion any more than a completely random opinion?

I'm not a "die-hard fan" and I bought this release. I guess I could recommend that members here buy it in order to support physical disc and since we already know that it's not a hack job. That's a more valuable opinion, frankly.

How does one read things like this and not feel like the reviewer is saying the UHD is an improvement

Quote:
In short, it's heavenly. Here's one of the most fundamentally gorgeous UHD releases on the market
Quote:
Here, the textural richness and color outputs are only amplified. The upgrade to this format is substantial
Quote:
cannot match the UHD for sheer cinema splendor.
Quote:
there's no mistaking this as the new quintessential presentation of a legendary film.

It doesn't matter how old the scan is as long as it was done without DNR and of the appropriate resolution.

I'm thankful there is not, both because that would leave out a very important part of the story and because no one should ever mess with a classic film in that manner.

True, but The Ten Commandments was shot in VistaVision, or 35mm run horizontally through the movie camera, so it's not as if it was coming from a regular 35mm negative.
