That was an incorrect interpretation of the Press release: Quote:
![]() At least the UK box set is looking like an attractive alternative (once the price comes down a bit). |

Gah, so Paramount are putting the extras discs in the US versions as usual, while the UK version can suck it. I guess I'll just have to do what I did with Transformers, remove the bonus discs from the editions I already have and stick them in the cases.

Alright guys, I’m really stupid; so is the US version getting individual releases, or are the first two films getting paired in a set, and then the next theee getting paired in a separate set?
The press release is a bit of a confusion in terms of reading comprehension. |

Wait, so do you mean that the U.K. set will exclude bonus discs or do you mean it will lack any and all extras/special features? Like, are the U.S. releases packaged so that all extras are included on a separate Blu-ray disc (like most UHD releases) and the U.K. sets dont include any of these (basically, they’re not UHD/BD combo packs)?

. . . . . . . . . . Forgive me, but I'm not familiar with native transfers, DI scanning so with these details... Mission: Impossible (1996): Shot on film, no DI scan, so it's native 4K. Mission: Impossible II (2000): Shot on film, no DI scan, so it's native 4K. Mission: Impossible III (2006): Shot on both film and digital, finished on a 2K DI scan, so it's upscaled 4K. . . Does this mean that M:I 1-3 will look better or not? I own these from their original Blu-Ray box set and is hoping that the new 4k releases will be better ![]() Last edited by Sylentwolf; 05-26-2018 at 03:34 AM. |

#1-3 should offer significant upgrades over the BD. Even if Paramount cuts some corners, the BDs are so weak that it won't take much for the UHDs to win.
GP and RN will likely be less substantial but should hopefully offer enough of an improvement to be worth buying. |

To answer the above question, MI3 will look worse than the older films most likely. That is because the DI was created with a film scan from over a decade ago, whereas the older films that were finished on film (no DI) can always be scanned with the newest equipment which makes a huge difference. You are correct that the first two are native 4K whereas the third will be an upscale.
Think of it like this: I recently bought a nice flatbed scanner for my computer. I scanned some 35mm negatives of my college graduation ceremony that were taken in 2009. The photo lab that developed my film included scanned images on a CD that I still have. My scans are markedly better in all respects including output resolution compared to what the lab gave me. The photo lab scans are like a DI. The equipment is antiquated by today's standards. Having the negatives on hand allows me to use a new scanner to get much closer to the full quality of what was captured on the film when the photos were taken. I can always re-scan my film as I get better equipment and I'm not locked in to decades old gear. That's the big advantage of movies finished traditionally on film as opposed to a DI. Does that answer your question? |

Sorry to all for changing the subject. It's funny that you bring up scanners... I was actually looking/researching for a new scanner (one being the Epson Perfection V800 Photo Color Scanner) for my computer. I have original photo film (film that photo huts gave back after printing your pictures) from pictures I took years ago and was wondering if I should have them transferred to CD (if possible) or should I just scan my original photos using a new scanner. I'm not sure that the photo film (negatives?) I have, can actually be used to scan. Their not like my fathers slides (with color) where you can use a projector to show them on a screen. The Epson V800 is a good scanner and can scan negative as well as positive film. I scan my photos at 4800 DPI as a BMP and save to PNG although you can save as a high quality JPEG too if you want. You can also scan mounted slides and medium format film too. If if were you I'd scan the negatives myself as I have yet to find any local places that do a better job. Just be sure to wear gloves and handle the film by the edges as much as you can. I use a small blower to get dust off before scanning too. |
