Just finished it. Even if it is a mistake, you honestly wouldn't know. Works really well.

Well, I'm not German* and I literally just went and checked again but whatever. The German UHD still works better I think.

The German amazon exclusive steel can be ordered again. Was even in stock earlier today (saw it myself while still at work EDIT: and is again).

I still won't buy this, but others might want to.

Well you’re wrong. I repeat, there is a version relesed in december on sites we’re not allowed to talk about that has the hiker scenes in the flashback. It plays out kinda like a horror scene with the corpse opening her eyes.

Also, the reason why it wasn't a Vietnam flashback and why the flashback to the hiker was pivotal:

Quote:
Dan Gordon explained the deeply personal scene in a recent chat with THR, “That scene was really about my son. It’s not losing someone you love is in the past and a reliving of something that happened 20 years ago. It’s that you keep on trying to save that person as if you can undo the past by saving others, and of course you always fail.”

Got my German copy today and just finished watching it. Just objectively better and the superior version of the film.

I don't want to spoil the opening but it gives the movie more emotional weight and really fleshes out the Rambo character further. It also sets up the Doors song later as well.

One thing that I didn't expect were all of the extra scenes. I thought it was just a 10 minute opening but you get Gabrielle asking him about the hikers before they go for a ride, several extra scenes with the Martinez brothers and just very quick inserts throughout the movie.

The pacing is great and none of the extra scenes detract from the movie but instead just help make it a better film.

If you liked the movie, I highly recommend the German release if you want the definitive version.

It has no English HOH subs, so it's not definitive. It also has the wrong flashbacks (to Vietnam instead of to the hikers) like all the extended cuts.

I know there is subtitles for the Spanish bits but only the spanish bits or subtitling all the dialogue? I just don't want to have to keep turning the subtitles on and off when the spanish speaking parts come on.

The English subtitles cover only the Spanish bits.

But how do we know that’s the version that aired in German theaters?

Correct. It does not have HOH subs but it does cover the Spanish speaking parts and I noticed it actually had more subs than the American release. There were a few quick Spanish lines in the US release that they didn't bother subbing but end up doing so here.

As for the flashback, we'll have to agree to disagree. The hiker scene JUST happened. I don't need a flashback minutes later.

The single dialogue of the guy screaming for his wife and then the Vietnam footage is perfect. It shows that it's yet another addition to Rambo's PTSD. He mentions before to the grandmother that he couldn't save the hikers just like he couldn't save his brothers in Vietnam. They are all connected.

It might be "wrong" but it works so much better in my mind than cutting back to the hikers. Rambo has dealt with way more terrible things in his life than a simple tracking failure which really wasn't even his fault. I like the idea of it adding to his trauma rather than being more important than Vietnam.

Wrong question. Why do you doubt it? I didn't see this in the theatre, but I for one will believe those who did over a (German) company saying "Everything's alright.". Especially since the supposedly correct version sounds way more plausible to me (than the voice over only version does).

Also, do you think the average Aussie joe from the posted link made it up 5 months ago as well? And only Germany played the Frankenstein version? And now the rest of the world got the German Frankenstein version as well? Well, I don't think so.

Really good movie but I think it was a huge mistake
[Show spoiler]killing one of the brothers off screen. Very disappointing not getting to witness his demise.

I also think the big bloody finale almost played like a montage it was edited so damn fast. They should have slowed that down just a bit as you barely had time to register how he'd killed one dude before he'd already killed the next.

There is no "agree to disagree," it is incorrectly presented no matter what you "think" works better. It's the wrong flashback, and no " are needed because that's a fact, not an opinion. The filmmakers detailed WHY is was more important than just showing more Vietnam flashbacks, which we've seen for 4 films, and I already posted that above. The rets of the film has nothing to do with Vietnam, but its about Rambo continually losing people he loves or tries to save, which ties in DIRECTLY with the hiker opening and which is why the hiker flashback works better than something that has nothing to do with the film.

And considering it's not about that "has dealt with way more terrible things in his life than a simple tracking failure," its that opening that directly affects the rest of the film, which has nothing to do with Vietnam and everything to do with the events that follow mirroring what happens in that opening.

So yeah, hardly definitive, and my statement stands.
