The new version looks more horizontally stretched.

I'm wondering if I should pick this up. Was going to wait for the review to come in from this site but if people on here already have it, is this one worth getting? I never got the original 4K version.

This one review is getting me more excited for the reviews of Halloween 4 & 5. Those two films alone we should see a significant uptick in both video quality and sound. I don't care much for H5 but I have been waiting for a nice playable copy of H4 for some time. Again I am very happy that SF listened to the complaints about the mono mix and made an adjustment whatever that happened to be. Maybe we will get a confirmation one day about the audio sources used for the Mono Mix and the Atmos Mix.

Always rather liked the look of the 2018 4K/2013 blu, with one reservation: the scene in which Loomis finds the truck and "Rabbit in Red" matchbook doesn't look natural at all. It's approaching Twilight Time NOTLD '90 levels of "let's try to hide that this was filmed in broad daylight" revisionism.

Nice, I just ordered a copy for store pickup today. I'll grab it on my way home from work. Thanks for the tip!

No store pickup available with 250 miles of my location. Damn. Hope Shout ships my set this week.

I knew it, the 2013 restoration was a 4k scan of the negative supervised by Cundey and Carpenter himself.
Interpositive… Hahaha

And I ordered a copy to be shipped right before midnight. I really didn’t think this would show up in stores or I would have done the usual midnight check.

Oh well, 1 for in store pickup and 1 to be delivered (that I can’t cancel). Why doesn’t BB let you cancel shipped orders anymore?

Ok, I was mistaken it’s not a j card. The case is housed in a slipbox. It is slightly larger than a normal case. I cannot seem to get a pic uploaded from my phone, so sorry about that. And yes, you can order the first one from Best Buy today. All the others are next week

So the ugly 4k banner is part of the slipbox art as was previously suspected. Given the new info about the mono mix and the early reviews, I honestly couldn’t care less about this slight nuisance.

After these reviews, cancelled my Scream Factory Vinyl bundle (seemed like it was going to be a wait and I don't honestly care that much about the vinyl (new recordings aren't my thing) or the poster and just went for Halloween, Halloween 2 and Halloween 4 from Walmart. Looks like they ship on the 9th

I don’t know…the 2013 caps definitely have more blotchy / less defined fine grain detail than the 2021 to my eyes. That’s not to say it wasn’t an OCN scan, but I don’t see that those caps definitively prove that it was, either. In any case, the new transfer looks better; that’s really all I care about.

Almost identical.
Same source, the same scan, different grading.

Thank you...placed order and ready for pick up. I'm braced for receiving the wrong edition (first UHD), but fingers crossed.

They're clearly not. Even the geometry is different. Look at the grain structure on Laurie's shirt and Linda's pants. It's far better resolved on the new scan.

Halloween (1978) is one of my top films, but I think I'm going to have to sit the SF 4K out until the price comes down a bit or I have more margarita money.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to hear about the loseless mono (which hopefully our keen eared posters here will give the nod of approval to), but I actually think I prefer the look of the 2018 4K from what I've seen so far, not to mention I got it in the beautiful Best Buy steelbook. I also have the original SF box set so I have most of, if not all, the extras.
