These early reviews give me some renewed hope that we may all get what we wanted on the audio side...

All of you will get a best to date, original mono as the default and I'll get the selectable, reportedly restrained ATMOS track that seemingly only I wanted LOL.. As the only one who will listen to it, I'll report back about whether or not the folly changes have been reversed.

They're clearly not. Even the geometry is different. Look at the grain structure on Laurie's shirt and Linda's pants. It's far better resolved on the new scan.
Should we be concerned about the change in geometry? That's the aspect that stands out as odd to me in the comparison.

In the past there have been a few instances where Shout got geometry wrong such as on The Thing where the picture was made more narrow than it should have been (resulting in everything looking thinner).

Mines ready for pickup at Best Buy. We’ll see, but I’m assuming it’s not street date locked in their system.

Honestly, I’m not sure which is correct, but if anything, the outlier actually seems to be the 2013 version. The geometry on the 2007 and 2021 versions looks the same.

As usual, the largest best buy in the capital of NY does not have it, yet every single other location 100 miles away have plenty of copies. Which is why Amazon gets all my money...

…and I’ll GLADLY give it a listen myself if those changes have been undone. If it’s a faithful mix, I’ll have far less issue with it. Thanks a lot for checking!!

Unfortunately the 2007, as well as every other release that I can find caps of had the same geometry as the 2013 scan (only difference is the centering and framing), here's the comparison:
https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...176169&i=6&l=0

If you look at the buttons on the shirt, despite being sideways they're too round to be correct on the 2021 (should appear more oval from that angle). I'm pretty confident the picture got stretched. Really sucks they made such a change as everything else was turning out quite nice.

I'm starting to loose hope that Shout can do proper UHD's at this rate. I'm crossing fingers they didn't also mess up the other films since I really want to see quality releases for at least II and III.

That being the case, it's probably just HDD's caps. They show the 2007 and 2013 having different geometry on their caps, so they're probably just slightly off. And even if not, you also have to keep in mind the distortion as you get further out to the sides of the frame inherent in anamorphic photography. Honestly, it's so incredibly slight that I wouldn't lose any sleep over it either way. This isn't an Explorers situation.

I'm just wondering why they decided to upscale their 1080p captures to 2160p.

Thanks for pointing that out, you've restored hope. Maybe things will be fine.

I wondered that myself. If they're all just BD caps as they say, what exactly was the point of that unless comparing to the Lionsgate 4K?

Picked it up at Best Buy without issue. In store pick up works if you have it close by.

HDD have updated their bit about the mono:

Quote:
After receiving some questions to this point, this new DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono track is very similar to the Dolby TrueHD 2.0 mono mix found with the Deluxe set. Quite possibly the same mix ultimately under a different format, to that point, there's something about this DTS version I can't quite put into words other than to say it has more oomph. A little stronger presence than the TrueHD 2.0 mono.

Interesting. That could either rightly describe the actual difference between the 2014 mono track and the LD mono track, or it could just be the reviewer’s perception due to the volume discrepancy he readily admits is present between the 2014 and 2021 tracks. Guess someone will have to listen for that stinger when Michael cuts Laurie’s arm to be sure. That was good and well buried on the 2014 mix.
