Ugh, I guess we are now waiting for individual reviews to see what is up with the Mono Mix. The reviewer had no issues comparing the picture quality of the 4K UHD release with the Criterion Laserdisc, not sure why he can't do the same with the audio.

They probably don’t have a copy of the LD mono readily available to compare to…it’s not quite as simple a task to grab that as is screenshots from earlier BD’s.

Gonna need another mono shoot-out video, this time comparing this disc to the Laserdisc.
I’m having a hard time seeing a geometry difference in the caps, but I do see a tiny bit more information in the image on the bottom of the 2013. One thing is for sure, there is a lot more clarity in the 2021 cap currently being compared. Look at the text on the cover of the paperback in Lynda’s bag. |

FFS, this is not some abomination of geometry EVEN IF it is a bit different. Again, this is anamorphic photography, and removing the inherent distortion in that isn’t as exact a science as you might expect. If anything, I WELCOME a slight geometry change as it’s proof that SF actually scanned the OCN as advertised. As someone who’s incredibly sensitive to these types of things, and actively argued with people in the Explorers thread over the ridiculous contention that you couldn’t see that disc’s geometry problems in motion (you easily could, and it bothered me so much that I fixed it myself and created a watchable version), this difference is *incredibly* slight, and there is absolutely zero chance that anyone would ever see it without a side-by-side comparison like this. I’m all for criticizing releases where criticism is due, but some of you will seriously never be happy.

I would wait before making too many detailed claims with regards to the picture. Highdefdigest "screencaps" seem to have all kind of wierdness going on.
The screenshots from Silence of the Lambs seem to have some strange problems as well. |

Interesting debate on original audio vs remixed for surround.
My take is that when a film comes to UHD, I want to have the original theater experience on the disc. I mean that in terms of the "cut", the color timing, framing, sfx/foley fx used, audio mix, etc. That is my personal feelings of what a "correct" release should be. If that disc has those things plus an additional audio mix, a different cut of the film, or what have you, then that's ok as well. More variety is better IMO, but I do not want the original creation to be altered or tainted, if that is the only version available on the UHD. On topic: I am excited to see the reviews start to come in for this release. I am planning to eventually pick up all of these Halloween releases regardless, just because it's my favorite horror franchise, but I do hope this ends up being a stellar product (filtered mono and all). |

That being said the fact that the aspect ratio is altered does give me hope it's a mistake on the website's part. |

I’ve been collecting physical media since discs were a thing and still have yet to have this happen. I’m just lucky I guess as I know it must be a really prevalent issue as many people complain about it.

There is absolutely something wonky going on with their caps. They show the 2007 and 2021 versions sharing geometry, with the 2013 version looking squeezed by comparison. The CAH screens, on the other hand, don’t show this disparity between the 2007 and 2013. Add to this the inexplicable decision by HDD to upscale all of their shots to 2160p, and there’s no way I’d base any assessment of the geometry on them.
