AVS forum once again pointed out that the difference was negligible. My display is supposed to get a firmware upgrade in the next couple weeks but I don't know if I really care. I don't know if I want to buy an overpriced player that locks up and deal with the DV related bugs for what amounts to a minor difference that many are calling "slightly different but not better looking". It may be superior technically speaking but if the results are hardly noticeable than I don't know if it is worth the money and hassle.
Yeah, my intention is NOT to start a war. I know many are sensitive about DV. I can see it being used for streaming only at one point, but that is just my opinion.

I did comparisons between the DV & the HDR version & it’s the first title I can remember that I enjoyed the HDR version better than the DV.
On my LG OLED the DV was crushing blacks but the HDR version did not. Usually it’s the other way around.
It also froze at about 1hr 10 minutes in. I have an Oppo UHD player so I took the UHD out & cleaned the disc & then it played fine.
I was astounded at the Dolby Atmos mix. The bass was incredible. Some of the deepest bass I’ve heard yet.
I felt like in the theater I watched the movie. At home with the Dolby Atmos track I “experienced” the movie. The sound effects at the scariest moments really made it more real.
The only thing was the center channel seemed to get overwhelmed by the other speakers. It sounded like I needed to turn it up. There were time the sound effects was a lot louder than the dialogue. Did anyone else notice that or have that problem.
It’s the only UHD so far I’ve had that problem with. I think I remember someone else mentioning that somewhere.
The use of HDR on this title really made the movie & is the best use of HDR I’ve seen yet.
The colors seemed a little muted at times but the red balloons really stood out.
Pennywise in the storm drain at the beginning of the movie is now my showcase for HDR.
Great job Warner except for the center channel being too low for people with full range speakers & a lot of bass.
Please if anyone else noticed that or is having that problem please post here so I’ll know. I don’t see how that could be just my copy.
I totally agree. Fantastic soundtrack but I found the center channel to be lower than in other movies.

I'll have to check tonight when I get home from work but last night when I watched this film I didn't take notice of any problems with the center channel or hearing the dialogue. A few scenes are pretty dark and I questioned weather my TV was crushing the blacks because eyes were hard to make out in some of the underground scenes at the end of the movie but other than that I didn't notice a single problem with the visuals or the audio and feel pretty confident that everything is as it should be.

Sound is fine on my end and so are the darker scenes.

The only scene that had me questioning the blacks was at the end when the kid is complaining that he was dragged out there and now he was going to have to kill a clown. He pulls a baseball bat out of the pile of garbage. Throughout that scene I could see his face but not his eyes. I couldn't tell if that was intended or not. My TV is pretty bright but you never know, my blacks could be boosted a little too much. Do you see his eyes in that scene or is it intentional? One thing is for sure, the blacks are pitch in this film, no boosted blacks is a rarity these days. It's nice to see, especially after watching the Nolan collection which seems to have elevated blacks throughout.

That makes sense. I like DV and all but we really dont need both formats. Just one good HDR implementation and everything will be just fine!

Watched the movie last night, and the HDR image was straight jaw dropping.

So glad I decided to grab this 4k steelbook.

Hmm, so with the Director's Cut what is the probability that the theatrical cut will come packaged with it, either on a separate disc or on the same disc?

Because the last thing I'd want is to hold off several months (probably till October) to make a purchase on this film, discover that I don't like the DC as much, and be stuck with that as an only option when I could have happily had the preferred theatrical cut version as early as today.

On the other hand, I definitely don't want to purchase the TC now and double-dip later on the DC, regardless as to whether it is superior. I'm done with double-dipping.

Me too, you can always buy some slips on Ebay. I've gotten a few. Always ask for pictures so you know what you're getting.

Do they ever exactly explain what or where the clown came from? Book or OG film?

Kinda hoping they cover this in the next movie

lol, I can't believe people actually collect those. I throw them away. It would be like saving the box for your refrigerator and going through the trouble to pull it off every time you want to get some food. It has the exact same art work as the cover of the Blu-ray case itself and serves no purpose other than to keep the Blu-ray case scratch free during shipping. I have a friend who has OCD problems and when I questioned him about this strange habit he told me that he doesn't like the color blue so he would rather cover the Blu-ray cases with non-concentric cardboard slips.... Now 4K is black, I wander what his excuse will be now lol. It's cool if you like to collect them, I just don't see the reasoning behind it since it looks worse and causes more trouble to get to the disc while serving no purpose at all. Keeping them for the heck of it? OK, but going on E-Bay and hoarding them?

Although I really like DV there isn’t a big difference. I’m happy to have both but it’s marginal.

Yeah I don't recall any of this in the movie. Hopefully they can explore a little in the next movie. I feel like there's a lot of people that didn't read the book that are completely lost about these bits of information (which, they should read the book anyhow).

I didn't have the grey bar issue in Dolby Vision and I have a 65" B6. I've watched a lot of DV titles recently and the only time I've seen grey bars was in the first 5 seconds of Valerian where there are vertical bars during the vintage space shots. Even then, only the vertical bars were grey, not the horizontal ones. Overall, regarding DV I agree that on some films the difference is marginal but for some movies I have a really hard time going back to regular HDR after seeing the DV version on Vudu.

I've hoping to finish this today. I might test out that opening scene in regular HDR to see if it's different. It is a pretty dark scene so it might not have been a DV issue. Also, man that is a brutal opening to a film. I've read the book and have seen the made-for-TV movie several times so I knew what to expect, but it still got to me.

Actually, it more like a dust jacket. You don’t need it, but some people find it makes the product incomplete.

Also, yes, they do go into Pennywise’s origins in the book and it’s been said the second film will do the same.

Yeah they probably should add a little more info from the book in the next one so that it is covered better. The book is great but some don't like to read and the book is on a whole different level of wacked out especially regarding the sexual nature of the story. Not everyone's cup of tea.

I had grey bars in the first few seconds of the film but that was it. Valerian is the worst one for that for me so far; many scenes in that one were quite grey.

I watched this on my HDR10 setup last night, but will check it out on my Dolby Vision setup tonight to see if I get the grey bars that others have been mentioning.
