I'd really like a 4K release of Tropic Thunder to go along with this. Would make for a great double feature.

Just placed my order. June will be an expensive month for me. Saving Private Ryan and Forrest Gump. Hoping Forrest Gump will change to store pickup soon and I will save shipping costs.

I've been thinking the same thing. That way its future proof for me. I just placed my pre-order this afternoon. At the very least have 7.1

The other Paramount films coming out around the same time have Atmos. And this title really needs a remix anyway. The surround activity for F.G. is almost nil even on scenes that scream for it.

It's how the director wanted it. Romancing the Stone was his first big budget feature and had a decent surround track but Zemeckis really didn't embrace surround sound again until 1997's Contact. Previous to that film - Gump, the Back to the Future series, Roger Rabbit - all had very modest to no surround activity. Which is not to say he didn't care about sound quality: Gump was mixed at Skywalker Sound and it sounds excellent. Just not immersive. Compare it to Cast Away which is demo material for quality surround to this day.

EDIT: Surprised there is an Atmos remix!

If your receiver doesn't do Dolby ATMOS, what is the default (English) audio track?

Normally, the 7.1 channel TrueHD lossless encoded base mix... a subset of the full Atmos remix.

I appreciate that the 4k disc also has the commentary tracks.

TrueHD 7.1, as mentioned, but sometimes (commonly in WB discs) there will be a DTS HD MA 5.1 track also available.

Warner and sometimes Sony does that - why Warner wastes space and bandwidth on new titles with native Atmos mixes is a mystery since TrueHD folds "up" from 2.0 to 5.1 to 7.1 and a lot of devices don't natively decode DTS-MA and a lot of TVs will not accept DTS.

Paramount is doing a DD 5.1 track on Saving Private Ryan

Disney has a DD+ 7.1 version on their UHDs, again not sure why they're wasting the bandwidth/space when they have the Atmos 7.1 TrueHD base.

Any news about the transfer, is it a new one or the same as the 2009 Sapphire Blu-ray?

The Sapphire was a 2k restoration I think.

Wasn't a restoration (Gump isn't falling apart or anything). It would have been a 2K transfer.
