Saw it last night at the theater. Yes I want to see the movie. I'm pretty sure Joachim does a fantastic job as rumored.

However, what use is the character of Joker without Batman? I'm not saying that to be negative, I'm just saying that this character is so intertwined with the character of Batman, that it's not really possible to divorce the two. Maybe the movie will add substance, but otherwise from what I know of comic books, the character of the Joker only really has a personality based on his dichotomy with Batman.

Now, if Batman appears, even at the very end in some way, or if this Joker ends up in the new, upcoming Batman, then yeah, I would be totally on board with that. It would be interesting to have the villain in his own movie then in the subsequent Batman movie.

I was down on this pretty much since it was announced but I am fully ready to eat some crow. Very much looking forward to seeing it now.

Its not gonna happen. Todd Philips has said you won't be seeing His Joker meeting Pattison's Batman

You’re thinking of it from a comics perspective too much.

Yeah, we know young Bruce Wayne is in this (we even see that in the trailer) so I guess you can say Batman appears in a way, but that’s what this is about. The filmmakers have been clear that this as a stand alone movie not meant to tie into a cinematic universe or set up material for future films, nor did they feel any obligation to be faithful to traditional Batman canon (and we’ll see if it pays off, I do have some doubts about this movie, but that’s clearly very freeing artistically).

I've seen the trailers and didn't even realize Master Bruce was in them

Not at all. I haven't even really read many Batman comics or many with Joker. What it reminds me of is a short-lived comic book series from the 1970s (I have not read that one either, just know it exists) that was only a few issue, so failed.

Point is, the source material never produced any kind of a character with substance that was appealing for a story. Only in regards to Batman. But that fantasy character (Joker) is so fully tied to fantasy character Batman, that what DOES exist as far as substance is too fully linked to his other half (Batman). But as a character in an of himself, he is not interesting.

So yeah, MAYBE the film has some writing that will bring out something of interest, but it may not interesting either to divorce Joker from that sourc, that existing and entrenched fantasy world.

And we know Thomas Wayne is in this too but it’s still separate from any other DC film. I’m not going into this film as being very comic bookesque I guess is the right term. I feel the same way about Logan.

Batman won’t show up at the ending. He’s a kid in this movie. Who the hell wants to see Batman as a kid?

Ha ha, yeah, you might have a point, and this is why I was not able to watch more than 5 or 6 episodes of Gotham (no Batman, so what's the point of this fantasy world without the central fantasy character, Batman). So I may be feeling the same thing about this Joker movie. I do still hope the movie will be good.

The character of Batman never needed the Joker in order to be interesting.

So if the writers do a good job of fleshing out the character and providing a solid backstory, who’s to say that the Joker needs Batman to be interesting?

...it all depends on the writing.

Yeah, and when the casting was announced it was pointed out the funny coincidence that the actor had played the young version of Joaquin Phoenix’s character in You Were Never Really Here.

Also, I know we can rule out an extended cut of this movie for home release (Todd Phillips has spoken out against those and sounds like post Hangover on he’s had enough sway to make it clear he will not allow those cuts), but I hope they include deleted scenes as a special feature which he often does.

Steel, which is rather Ironic don't you think? A little too ironic.

I'm not sure, but I have a feeling they might go on sale late next week, that'd be two weeks out from the movie's release date.
