We have no idea what the cadence of UHD titles from Arrow might look like after this or to what extent they might revisit previous releases, so I wouldn't make any rash decisions yet. There's not a lot of precedent. Hell, the fact that Arrow has already announced 2 titles puts them equal to or ahead of most other boutiques in the U.S.

So who had "All of the Above" in the multiple choice test question, "Which boutique blu ray label will beat Criterion to 4k?"

MGM won't allow a UHD-BD until the new Robocop film is ready for release. If it weren't for the pandemic, the new film would be in production right now and released next year, with the UHD-BD as a tie-in.

Nobody really speaks openly about it, but that was the plan from the licensing folks and Arrow can release something down the line, if MGM lets them. I don't know for a fact if Arrow was going to release it originally, or if it was going to pass to someone else, but a 4K release was definitely on the table and the Robocop DCP used now for exhibition is the 4K unrated cut that would have landed on the disc. Tying the new Robocop film to a big wave of merchandise and the original film was supposed to be a huge thing for MGM's licensing division. The inclusion of Robocop in the latest Mortal Kombat and the release of the first film in a SE package by Arrow was part of that planned wave, but the pandemic has likely disrupted most of the planned merchandise, which couldn't sell in an economic dead zone, so they will probably limit the merchandise until the new film is underway or ready for release.

Will Pre order soon. I will admit I was surprised to see Arrow handle the 4K release.
I will admit I was expecting it to be Universal for the 4K and Arrow for the BD release as they did with waterworld. Looking forward to the remaining films to be released. Also glad they got the Directors cut as well since the Directors cut was never released in the UK officially until now. |

I'll be waiting until I know it's worth buying and free of defects. I'm holding off on disc purchases until the big holiday sales, but I may show some love to Arrow and Blue Underground by ordering what they are putting out, to support future releases.
