You could always try flipping through your manufacturers TV settings like HDR maybe it has a Bright or Normal mode that looks a little brighter. I kind of like using ZOOM on the 4K of The Thing it looks like old CRT TV picture and the clarity still holds up (Hey Geoffy muy SCREEN PICTURE IS FULL ) on ZOOM plus it's a great film to use to get your TV brightest with all the SNOW settings. You know if you are bored...

It's not like they're limited editions, and I DON'T want those hideous slipcases, and I'll be flipping the art as soon as I get these. I thought about swapping the copies in my boxset for these, but I've already frankensteined that thing enough by fitting in the TCs of the Zombie films.
I’ll probably wait on the release for the first film. If it had the unfiltered mono I’d buy it in a heartbeat, but I’m pretty content with the BD in the boxset. I’ll definitely get the UHD for H4 though since that’s going to have the original stereo mix that hasn’t been heard since the LaserDisc. No longer will H4 fans have to listen to that terrible 5.1 remix that’s missing sound effects, foley, and just has a very lifeless, bland soundscape. I might also get the UHD for H2 since it has the original stereo mix.

I mostly just want to say how awesome I think it is that you still have the LD. I don't know what your complete collection is like, but I envy people who have the space to keep all the physical media they've collected over the years. I've gotten rid of all my VHS, LD, and the majority of DVD when able to upgrade to HD simply because of space. Question: In the day of HD, how does a LD look on a 4K screen? I've been non-plussed with the way DVDs look on 4K displays and I imagine it's a similar presentation on LD?

As usual on this forum it's hard to get concrete information amid all the drivel.
If the track has been normalized to make the audio source sound louder, then you will get the initial perception that it is better than the same source used on the 2014 Blu Ray. It's the exact same concept used in the 1990's Remaster campaign for CD's in the music industry: Louder = Better. But if someone takes a capture of the 2014 audio and the one included in the 2021 release and level matches them it will tell the truth. There's a good chance that both will sound exactly the same (unless Shout Factory decided to boost some EQ frequencies on top of normalizing). If that turns out to be the case, you will get the same effect by putting on the 2014 Blu-Ray and cranking the volume knob on your receiver.

When more people get their copy we will probably see more picture comparisons and audio comparisons. I foresee a Criterion Laserdisc vs 2014 BluRay vs 2021 4K UHD Mono Mix (level matched of course) in the near future.

Yeah, my online order for Halloween got delayed (supposed to come today ). I reordered and it's ready for local pickup (on my drive home ) since it's in stores.

i remember when new BD or dvds would get reviewed by some idiots and they would only review the movie itself.. and not the quality of the disc or its contents.. hated that...

The latest update they said was that they are still waiting for their inventory to arrive. Even if the site stops taking orders while they are away, they ship inventory as it arrives for existing orders.

A lot of the reviews (especially on Youtube) might as well be following this practice. It's hard enough to find quality reviews of a film that don't have an influencer bias tied to them. This release of Halloween is going to be no different, only a very small handful of professional reviewers out there get it right by doing the research and providing reliable stats to back up their opinion.

My biggest complaint with reviews of older films such as Halloween (1978) is how the review is mostly focused on the picture quality and the audio review is typically neglected. I will be amazed to see a review of this new 4K release that calls out the inferior audio sources used for both the original mono track and the surround mix (Atmos). Both mixes have been plagued with issues and none of the reviewers dig deep enough to recognize and address it. Companies like Shout Factory are not going to strive to do better if they don't get called out for practices like this.

No matter how much they hate it when they get flogged by the consumer base for questionable choices (the new artwork for example), they know that ultimately they cannot make the same mistake again and the next physical release they will use only the original artwork. It helps even more when a professional reviewer raises the same criticisms. Give the audio a 3/5 rating and maybe they will put a better effort into fixing it on the next release.

Agreed. My TV has HDR settings. Ranges between 1-5. It tells me the higher the HDR level (5) the more accurate depiction of HDR. But when I turn it up to the highest setting, I honestly believe it simply dims my backlighting as the image does get darker. So I keep my settings between 2 and 3.

I wouldn’t say “tons” of copies sold. Each store likely received three copies. My store had theirs stored in the back warehouse. And the guy brought it out for me. By request. Meaning they were likely kept in the back waiting for the 10/5 date to put out on floor. But being their system had the 9/28 date, they were able to make the sales transaction.

I just looked again and now it's for 'pre-order' and shipping only. No in-store pickup. Glad I reordered earlier this morning before they changed it (though I probably could have walked in and picked it up (unless they pulled them temporarily)).

Still works. Just add to cart for location that has it. Pickup Today is an option.

Will it still let you go into store and buy a copy if they have it?
