That little DC logo in the upper left hand corner ruins the cover.

I feel grateful that they are pushing out the theatrical cut instead of Donner's director's cut. I have the original DVD box set of the Reeve films which only had the director's cut in it. So annoying. There is a tendency by these studios to engage in revisionist history in attempt to sell extra copies ("look, 8 more minutes of footage!"), so I just want to humbly thank them when they don't do it.

In a perfect world, you can release all the director's cuts, dolby atmos mixes, etc. that you want, just be sure to include the original cut, color timing/grain structure, audio mix, and poster-as-cover-art (in that order of importance) and I will be thrilled. It's extremely rare we get all those elements, but the first two are the most important, and this release looks as if it will fit that bill.

I never bought any bd iteration of the Superman franchise based on reviews (same for the original Star Trek movies). I didn't get the recent WAC bd either so I'm extremely anticipating this classic in 4k uhd. Regardless of how this looks and sounds it's going to be (hopefully) a huge upgrade.

I don't think I've ever seen the theatrical version of this, I've watched the extended one since I was little. I always found that one a bit boring though, so I'm looking forward to this.

It's not all that different, but it does move a little better.

As long as there's less time on Krypton I'll be happy, that's where most of my boredom came from.

Don't get me wrong. I like the Theatrical Cut. I love any version of this movie. It's just that part of me wanted all three known versions of the movie to be in one set. It was wishful thinking. The other part of me probably knew it wasn't going to happen.

Doesn't seem like the standard BD includes the atmos track. Is there any evidence that the BD will be from the remastered 4k version? Would be a shame if it isn't for those of us not 4k capable yet.

The packaging says that the BD is remastered, for what it's worth.

I grew up on the theatrical cut I'm pretty sure... And I only watched my BD of superman like once or twice. That 100$ purchased boxset didn't get all that much use, honestly lol

Looking forward to this, though. DV and atmos. Good stuff Warners...

Heh, the Krypton scenes are generally my favorite parts, personally; followed by the brief Smallville segments. When the film hits Metropolis is, IMO, when it dials up the cheese and camp a little too high.

DD or DD+ at any bitrate higher than 640kbps will not show any performance difference.

Straight from Dolby: the DD+ 1536kbps rate on HD DVD was for purely marketing reasons for those who thought "more is better" when it came to DTS lossy at the same bitrate.

640kbps as the maximum bitrate for AC-3 was chosen for a reason: there was no perceptible difference between the master and the codec at higher bitrates. DD+ (E-AC-3) on the other hand was meant for *lower* bitrates, such as streaming 256kbps 5.1 - or allowing more channels than 5.1 since AC-3 doesn't allow for that.

This release seems lazy. Like a stop gap measure to coincide with the 40th annivcersary until they can give us a big box set with all the cuts and extras or even all the Reeve movies. I think the theatrical cut may be the best version, but why not at least include all the extras and not just these lame ones?

Yeah like the matrix, definitely worth a wait until they include the rest of the series.

More like a token acknowledgment of the characters 80th anniversary.

Either way, this is a must have and hopefully will encourage WB to release more deep catalog titles on the format.

Selfishly, I'm hoping for the original Ninja Turtles (1990) to get released.

I still get hairs stand up on the back of my neck during that helicopter rescue when the music is building and supes flies in for the first time. Perfectly paced scene.

I knew that reply was incoming but I WANTS MOAR. It's the original 6-track mix and they're gonna waste a lossy encode on it? Why do Warners make things so ****ing awkward, first they revise the living shit out of Blade Runner but don't include a DTS-HD 5.1 backup like they've done on many of their Atmos UHDs before and after, and then when they get something else that truly deserves to have a lossless 5.1 representation they've already made the decision to switch to lossy DD (starting with Matrix 1, I think?). Gah.

Still, I said re: BR that I'd have taken a 640 DD 5.1 encode of the 2007 mix on the 4K as being better than nothing and I've got to stand by those words for STM. I'm just glad that a newly-mastered representation of the original audio is on the STM 4K disc along with whatever reimagined monstrosity they've come up with in the name of Atmos. We all win.
