You should only be worried about the video anyway. And if the encode's bad you need to shut up about that too and be grateful, you're actively hurting everyone else's ability to enjoy product.

I looked at it last night with the mono. I don't listen to the ABing of unavailable audio tracks as that way madness lies- at least for me. More power to those who rip discs and audio tracks and resync them to stream to their tv or whatever, but when I GET to watch a movie, I'm just gonna throw a disc in. As of my viewing last night, I wish the low end had a little more oomph to it, but I liked it fine. The picture looked great to me. I haven't seen the Lionsgate to compare, so if it's better, by all means, enjoy that one.

I always opt for original audio when available- see my many rants about The Thing's audio track in that thread- and I understand the irony of that statement after what I said earlier as I guess folks' issue with this is that it's compromised and I don't think anybody is wrong to complain about it. I just don't do it as it seems like a waste of time. I DID look at a couple of bits with the 7.1 for kicks after I watched it once through- that kind of revisionism is not for me, but it felt tastefully done for what it was.

This package has all the extras for this movie that I could want, so I'm ready to call it day and say this is as close to definitive for me as I need it to be.

Well said. I'm totally on the same page. In fact, I'm soooo happy I received my copy and watched it -- and enjoyed the hell outta it -- before this wonky compression talk started. I'm not going to look at the examples (which I'm sure are horrendous) and I frankly don't care how it compares to the mono-less Lionsgate -- which I've owned since Day One but NEVER WATCHED, due to its lack of original mono; this is the release for me, and I know that 'cuz I was completely happy with it before anyone raised any issues. Lalalalalalala I can't hear you lalalalala.

Edit: Forgot to mention 2 things: I haven't actually watched the disc on my TV yet, so these issues might not be as noticeable in motion (to most people), and don't take the color as very accurate, I only used madVR's default HDR-to-SDR settings. Not that an HDR-to-SDR conversion is ever accurate.

Glad I'm staying with the 2018 one then. Shout really irritates me at times...
