A lot of people here already own the 2018 uhd release, so they want to see a significant improvement. Right now looks like they messed up with the aspect ratio (stretched horizontally) and subpar compression. Not promising at all.

For instance, if we compare the headlights in this shot, it's the 35th anniversary transfer that looks too "skinny". These types of issues can crop up with anamorphically shot films but unless they're very drastic--like the 1st Criterion DRESSED TO KILL--, I don't it counts as an error. |

If anyone noticed the “stretching” without toggling between releases and using a perfect circle to compare buttons on a sweater for perfect roundness, I’d be profoundly shocked. The disc looks great. It’s the best the film has ever looked, for heaven’s sake. Watching this in Dolby vision is a real treat. If you want to pass on this over supposedly stretched geometry (based on one review that already wrongly reviewed the mono track), be my guest. Meanwhile, I’ll be muxing in the Criterion mono with this video and enjoying the hell out of this.

It is, however, exactly like every crappy surround version of Halloween ever. Not a single revisionist foley effect or audio change in general is different than they’ve ever been.

Yes, the original is the best, but I can't be down with just watching originals. It would get to repetitive and boring to me. |

Pic 3 is such an improvement it makes me want to drop kick the old version. The overall shadow detail, artifacting etc are just light years better. Compression artifacts stand out more because you are getting a vastly more detailed picture. Last edited by grodd; 10-03-2021 at 03:15 AM. |

![]() https://www.unravel.com.au/aspect-ratio-cheat-sheet Either way, it's such a freaking small difference, I'll absolutely never notice one way or the other. And neither would anyone else without switching between the two sources. And if they say otherwise, frankly, they're lying. Last edited by Croweyes1121; 10-03-2021 at 03:47 AM. |
