I was worries about this issue when I picked up the Sony A90J as my LG B7 had the same issue. Had to changed the setting in the service menu on the B7.

Since you can't do the same on the Sony sets however I was relieved when I realized this set did not suffer the same issue. Much more laxed when it triggers in that regard. My Unforgiven disc played flawlessly when I rewatched it on this set.

honestly I'll take a release with a slightly filtered mono track and some minor encode issues over a release that literally changes aspect ratios and lacks the authentic mono track, despite some flaws it is definitely the superior release compared to Lionsgate's trainwreck

I had to turn ASBL off pretty much the day I got my E6, but it isn't something that affects all OLEDs. There hasn't been a single instance of my HZ2000 dimming the image in play no matter how dark it gets, it only ever happens after an extended pause period, as intended. It just seems the LGs have overly sensitive ASBL, or at least the older models did.

Yep did the same with my C6, C8 and now C1. I can get into the SM with my harmony remote.

Trainwreck is hyperbole. Obviously the original mono would have been nice, but lots of peeps were happy with the Lionsgate UHD when it came out. Now they're acting like it's some sort of disaster.

Anyway, I'm probs just gonna stick with the Lionsgate release and pick up Halloween III (the best sequel!) at a later date. I dunno if I like the second and fourth ones enough to spend so much dollar upgrading from Blu-ray, and Halloween 5 is a bit shit.

something I've been curious about

I know this is moreso an issue about the original mix itself that's plagued the movie since its theatrical release, but is there any reason why the pitch of the music for a few of the scenes abruptly changes to where it's higher than normal? (even in one scene it warps at one point from normal to a higher pitch)

I used to think it was something to do with the shoestring budget but not even movies with the same budget at that time would have that issue

Yeah, lots of hyperbole all over the place. The Scream isn't an unmitigated disaster nor is the Lionsgate unwatchable dreck.

I mean Lionsgate Halloween did say La Roux was overrated and Showgirls was a crap film. So will you still defend it?

ok I'll admit I overexaggerated a bit, I have seen worse 4K releases than that one, the audio just bugs me a lot and so does the changing aspect ratios

however I still do think it could've been less desaturated as well

I need to learn how to do this. I hate it on my set.

You'll need to get a Harmony remote if you can find one, follow the instructions on how to access the service menu, and it's a simple setting change (like, changing it from on to off if I recall). Very simple process. Getting the remote is the most annoying part.

and this shot, I don't know

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...179006&i=2&l=1

Thoughts?
Look at the Toyota logo on the truck in the second shot, much clearer on the scream disc.

Also, look at this shot

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...&l=1&i=11&go=1

Not only is the cropping better but if you look at the red car on the left side the lionsgate smears the number plate, the scream you can see it's much clearer.

Also, the color is far superior, it's not even up for debate imo, the scream disc is far better than the lionsgate disc.

Now Amazon needs to hurry up and deliver the discs to me from the US to the UK ASAP, Halloween 2 hasn't even got a delivery date yet :-(.

How long before the scream discs stop being printed and it turns into scalpers paradise?

I feel a release in Europe is inevitable from the usual outlets. There's chance yet for us and the most anal of collectors. I have faith.

When it came to the sound production of the film, it was done very quickly and on a very tight budget. John Carpenter recorded all of the music in two weeks and did it blind, meaning that he recorded everything to a metronome rather than playing along to the film itself. Then they more or less rushed to dub the music, dialogue and effects together and that was the final mix. I would imagine the pitch change was just something overlooked at the time, they just wanted the film done and released to the public.

You can literally see the Lionsgate FILM. Scream is a joke.

If you sit 1 foot from your UHDTV you can see all that beautiful grain on the Lionsgate 4K just like in those screwy Caps. Even 8 feet away on a 50" or bigger screen. Too bad about the 7.1 Chace/Fold-down Mono Chace.

This isn't a Kubrick or Kurosawa film so the Aspect Ratio for a Carpenter film has never bothered me I even watch his stuff with ZOOM on a lot like the Fullscreen version i.e. The Thing, Halloween, Big T.I.L.C. Not Christine. Widescreen for that one. I don't think I have ever watched a Carpenter film in theatre always TV/Cable so ZOOM FTW!! It actually makes Halloween feel less campy and low-budget if you watch it with ZOOM on.

Unless I can get the Scream for cheap (always tricksy with boutique imports) then yes, I'm gonna wait and see if the new transfer gets a European release somewhere.

Didn't Arrow come really close to obtaining the rights to the original film a while back? Not sure what happened there, but it wouldn't surprise me if they'd since tried again.
