Blue is what it looked like on 35mm prints. Blue gels do what it does. You know what I mean? Not desaturated and nearly black and white as on the horrible Lionsgate UHD.

still better colour overall imo + Atmos

so just the usual kind of Shout release then ?
Better colour? Why is it better?

I disagree, at least so far. Consensus doesn't mean unanimous.

If you go back and take a look since people started getting these in hand last week, the vast majority have said that it definitely beats the previous release in multiple areas, including PQ. Even the folks who are posting and analyzing screenshots for compression seem to say as such.

The only posts I've seen that have disagreed have been disappointed in the HDR10 presentation. Apparently, it is not as good as the Dolby Vision (which seems to be a trend, unfortunately).

So I'd say the consensus at this point regarding PQ is - this is a great disc in Dolby Vision, but if you can only do HDR10, then YMMV.

We'll see how that continues to stack up once more people get them in their hot little hands.

EDIT: Someone should make a poll!

Because the colour of the new UHD matches 35mm prints very closely.

Makes me glad I chose the Dolby Vision route (TV/4K player/receiver) when I jumped into 4K .

dvdmike, I’ve seen enough film materials of Halloween in recent years that I’m comfortable with my opinion. No home video has ever been exact, but this is close enough to for me. 35mm sure as hell didn’t and don’t look like the desaturated Lionsgate UHD. Unless you want to show me some sample or scan I missed, I’ll fully stand by what I said. The colour grading on Shout’s! UHD is similar to Criterion’s LD and both are similar to 35mm.

As someone who owns both the Scream Factory and Lionsgate UHD's, there is no competition over which one is better, it's the Scream Factory. People can blow up the image and nitpick all they want. In motion, being from the OCN, the Scream Factory release is amazing. Now if I could just find a cheap UHD external player to rip the video with Dolby Vision and sync the Laserdisc Mono then I am set

Some kind of midnight blue filter seems applied imho.
I noticed the metal on knife/blade on one of first screenshots posted was much more blue on SF, was about 20 pages ago
though maybe that was the lighting they used ?

I think HII is going to be the big seller, I know a bunch of people that only bought that one or III. I think plenty are sticking with the Halloween disc (or discs) they already have owned. I got the first four like a sucker cause I missed the boxset boat, but am passing on part 5 (for now). Hopefully I can just jump the story to 6 when those come out next year.

The “blue gels” were used throughout all the photography, including the daytime scenes?

Sorry to ask something that's probably been answered here but since lots are about the UHD, is the BD that comes with this the same new transfer? Plus another old one maybe? I wasn't clear on those details.
