More like

“A better upgrade then the lions gate, but if you put a space telescope to a screen cap….”

Really depends on 1. how sensitive you are to compression issues and 2. whether you’re set up for Dolby Vision playback. If you’ve got #2, #1 isn’t such a problem. If not, as another member said, YMMV. Personally, I love this disc and think it absolutely buries the old UHD. But that’s me.

Ran by BB to pick up my ISPU for H78 and it was a wasteland. They had none of them aside from mine and a couple of others picking up their ISPU for H78. They didn't even have any American Psycho steelbooks either. They had to grab them from the back for me. But it's nice to have this in hand finally. The slipcase is so much nicer in person. Can't wait to check it out tonight.

The AP steelbook is amazeballs.

Thanks for the clarification everyone. My television (LG C9 Oled) has DV, however, my player (lower end LG) doesn't support DV.

Eventually, I'll get around to upgrading it, but it still works fine, and I have no issues with it being able to play back anything I throw at it, barring a manufacturing error like the Donnie Darko theatrical cut.

I bought my player before I had my current t.v. set, and my old one didn't support DV, so I didn't prioritize it when shopping for a disc spinner. The old saying "buy nice or buy twice" certainly applies here.

Based on the caps, Shout is definately improvement color wise, resolution wise, shadow detail wise. The only area is grain managment ( check cap 18 ). Compression looks to be healthy ( 71Mbps plus DV layer = DV is a must ). One would need to know how much grain actually benefits the picture and what is dirt and compression artifact vs "clean" picture.

This isn't a Kubrick or Kurosawa film so the Aspect Ratio for a Carpenter film has never bothered me I even watch his stuff with ZOOM on a lot like the Fullscreen version i.e. The Thing, Halloween, Big T.I.L.C. Not Christine. Widescreen for that one. I don't think I have ever watched a Carpenter film in theatre always TV/Cable so ZOOM FTW!! It actually makes Halloween feel less campy and low-budget if you watch it with ZOOM on.
I've always wondered why so many on here discount what you have to say based on the misspelling of your name when the content of your posts are enough...

So who remembers watching this in the theatre? Just kidding! Such a sensitive bunch!

Did Sam Loomis/Donald Pleasence have a Blue tinted Beard/Goatee for the whole film or just the night scenes with the blue gel lighting? A Grey/White tinted Goatee in the Daytime scenes?? I think Lionsgate and old Shout! got it right. No Smurfie lookin' colored Goatee hairs on the daytime scenes??

Anyway, I recently watched the Lionsgate Special Features of The TV Version where Loomis checks on a perhaps 10-year-old Michael catatonically staring out the Hospital Window from his room, before he shreds it, etc. SISTER. Those scenes after the interview/hearing with Loomis protesting he be sent to a higher security facility. No blue facial hair and those look like the rough original film.

I wish there were more daytime screencaps this is fun examining the "possible" crime scene

I think the daytime scenes were all Neutral/Warm lit. Especially viewing Laurie and Linda when Laurie is in her house in her Pink Robe and her friend is trying to borrow her blouse. Another cut scene. And then the nighttime scenes for example with Paul were blue gel lit. NOT THE WHOLE DAMN FILM GUYS just the night scenes! Well, Scream begs to differ possibly, but I don't have enough screencaps to compare nor care it's just fun seeing the differences. OK...I think in the end we all like whatever version we have because this is a fun film.

All you have to do is plant a seed of doubt, or speak the truth. Which is it?? Hahaha...

Those aren't cut scenes. They were filmed for the tv version around the time of production on HII.

I just really want to see the T.V. edit. I would be getting this even if it didn't include the T.V. edit, sure, but I must admit that is a big reason why I want this release.

It's a fun curio IMO, and I'm interested to see how it differs from the theatrical cut.

Just popped it in to check it out on my Sony OLED with DV and it looks very good. The compression artifacts are minimal with DV and the grain structure looks solid. I think this is similar to some of the Studio Canal discs where the HDR 10 layer isn’t encoded as well and the Dolby Vision layer fixes a lot of the issues

Same, gonna make some Jiffy Pop and throw it on this Friday night. That, for me, was a big appeal of this release. It just sounded like a fun viewing experience.

Can't see if this has been asked/answered or not: does the TV edit reinstate the Smith's Grove screen card that has been missing off every version except the Criterion LD?

Edit: Disregard, the image was kindly posted by Croweyes1121

Looks like a nice upgrade. Especially colors-wise. Didn't expect the movie can look this much better after previous UHDs.
