If a title goes out of stock by then, they'll automatically cancel it and ship the rest. This is a major problem when you place pre-orders, as they'll also wait until the last release date to ship the whole order. Used to ship everything in boxes (well packed), but recently I've received lettermails from them, so not that protected. Prices can be good, especially for Universal titles on a 12-month window form release. Boutique titles are usually way more expensive, aside from rare sales. The Halloween 4K CEs are rather surprisingly at decent prices. I haven't tried to return anything, but their policy states you need to ship the returns. So you can't just take it to a store. For in-stock items with good prices, it's a good option. For pre-orders, I wouldn't recommend them. |

Prices will never be this low again for the boxed editions. I think I got them all for $25 on average, plus I just ghost ordered Part 4 for $15 after a $10 credit popped up on Amazon. People will be trying to sell the boxes for these for $15-20 each easily someday (or more, hi Wetmovie). 5 is a pig but I will probably end up ordering it just because. Get them now lads

Got 1 and 3-5 in today from Amazon Canada. (For some inexplicable reason, II wasn’t able to be fulfilled so it got cancelled from my order. Somehow…)
Anyway, the first film came in the non-Viva case, while 3 & 4 are in eco cases and 5 is a Viva Elite non-eco case. |

Amazon is still sitting on my H1 for another week or so, I honestly don't know when H2 is going to be shipped.
Is it just me or has Amazon really been lacking when it comes to pre-order titles recently? Black Widow isn't available until the end of the month, they delayed my Clockwork Orange pre-order (which I cancelled and ordered from Best Buy), and now this whole Halloween thing. |

I just broke down and bought them all through Shout. I'll have to wait a couple weeks, but I'll at least get them in a somewhat predictable timeframe and probably packaged better. |

Some folks are making the Shout H1978 out to be practically scrubbed of all natural grain, but it's nowhere near The Thing's 4k uhd transfer, which, despite being gorgeous, really DOES look a bit overly grain-managed, at times. It's occasionally almost too pristine. The Thing 4k, while I really enjoy it, just barely rides the line of "almost-distractingly-not-grainy-enough". The Shout Halloween 1978 transfer doesn't hit me that way, at all. And it's nice to have some Cundey blues back in play, too. Last edited by DaylightsEnd; 10-05-2021 at 11:06 PM. |

The mono track was subsequently filtered. Me no likey. The low and high frequencies both seem excessively attenuated and the whole track lacks punch, depth, fidelity, and power, leaving it fairly anemic.

Well, I just popped in the new 4k disc, and flipped through it a bit. Eh....I think it looks fine on my setup.
![]() Either I am not overly fussed, or I am sitting too far from my set, but i don't see any glaring issues. Generally, when I think of compression issues, they seam to rear their ugly heads in darker scenes. While quickly flipping through this disc, I didn't notice anything sticking out like a sore thumb or anything. Out of curiosity, I had to pop in the T.V. edit, to see how it looks. It's pretty rough, I'll admit, but I am still really glad that it's included here. As well as the extended cut, which seems to fare better, but still falls far short of either UHD release. A lengthier review will come eventually, once I have had the time to properly digest the set, and give it a serious viewing. All in all, I am very pleased with this purchase, and am even more excited to pick up the rest in the set. ![]() |

There're multiple re-posts in the many pages of this thread with comparisons between the filtered and unfiltered mono tracks. Basically, they're both absolutely authentic; the "filtered mono" that's been used for the past 20 years is the real deal, but I guess someone along the way tried to use noise reduction on it or something, so it lacks some of the presence and "pop" of the unfiltered track. I find it to be absolutely "fine", and it's my go-to track every single time I watch Halloween. Do I wish it were "unfiltered"... yes. But I ain't losin' sleep over it.

The more I see (and hear) these comparisons, the more I think a lot of it could be alleviated by adjusting the EQ on my receiver. I feel like I could make a "special setting" for Halloween that would help bridge the gap. I certainly don't have the gear or the know-how to mux the LaserDisc track onto my 4K image, so that's not an option for me.
