I find it to be absolutely "fine", and it's my go-to track every single time I watch Halloween. Do I wish it were "unfiltered"... yes. But I ain't losin' sleep over it.
Would you say it at least sounds better on this release than it has on past ones?

One thing no one can argue about these new Shout 4k Halloween releases is that the slipcovers they chose are remarkably beefy and durable. Half the packages I've seen had perfect looking slips, and yet the hubs inside were smashed or broken, with loose discs bouncing around inside, from some sort of massive shock to the package in transit. My two copies of H1978 are perfect, as I picked them up at a Best Buy in person.

So funny you should ask; just posted this ten minutes ago:

I had both discs playing simultaneously on my Oppo 203 and Oppo 83, and could seamlessly switch inputs between them... and there is NO discernible difference. To my ears, SF did NO sweetening, despite earlier reports. If there are graphs and charts that prove me wrong, then I accept the science, lol... but my ears heard NO difference as I toggled back 'n' forth. Still love it; it's absolutely my go-to audio track... but it has not been improved, as far as I can tell.

I was doing an A/B comparison with the Criterion mono and yeah...the Criterion is so much more dynamic, but this one is still "fine". Maybe I'll still mux it in afterall. Definitely going to use the new transfer and the LD audio to cut into my 160 minute cut of H1 and H2.

Man, woke up this morning with a bad hangover, naked, and covered in Halloween slip covers. I may have a problem…

Sounds about right. You could take these ugly but tough slipcovers outside, dump 'em in a steel trash barrel like the Babadook storybook, light 'em on fire, watch 'em go up like matchsticks.....and when you went back inside, they'd be right back on their respective keep cases like it never happened.

I rarely have a complaint for my Amazon deliveries, apparently I am lucky, but leave it to them to deliver all 4 of these in a paper bag when I get tiny things that cost $5 in a sturdy box.

*Man, how do you upload a pic here? You have to go to another site to upload a pic and link it here? Talk about outdated.

I remember sometimes getting this tiny item in a large insane box that was just so over the top…..oh Amazon never change….

I cancelled 1 and 2 from Amazon because I was able to get them from Best Buy in person a week early. 3 and 4 shipped from Amazon today. I'm only missing 5. It's weird, I ordered them all the same day but they all had different shipping estimates. Amazon is currently telling me that 5 is expected to come on Monday.

I'd be skeptical about the future entries being in 4K any time soon, cause I know for a fact that Miramax owns 6-8 and Paramount has distro for those now, so unless Paramount doesn't have control over licensing of Miramax titles, I unfortunately doubt we'll be seeing remasters (let alone 4K disks) of those entries any time soon

and even if Shout was able to get them, who knows if Miramax would allow them to be in 4K

however a less exclusive version of H20 in the original aspect ratio (not counting imports) and a not "one of the worst encodes I've ever seen" presentation would be nice

also what is the reason Shout decided to one again include the crappy 2007 transfer as an extra?

Probably just to have it included. They did the same with Black Christmas and TCM2.

They don't. Paramount only owns 49% of Miramax.

Criterion will be releasing a 4K UHD version of The Piano either in December or next year, so yes, they are licensing out movies for 4K.

I honestly don't know; I guess so we'd consider it "complete"? In any case, I did them one better: I put the three SF discs in a 4-disc case and also threw in the Boxed Set version of the 35th Anniversary transfer with original mono. While I don't intend ever to watch it again, at least I've got 'em all under one roof!
