Halloween est 26th Oct for me
and PT.II is est Nov 4th from Amazon US cost £30 each including shipping custom VAT charges etc so not too bad SF BD's are quite expensive compared to some so I thought their price would be a bit higher for UHD what's people's thoughts on the price ? ![]() |

Welp, I caved—I have the deluxe Blu-ray set that Shout release some years back, and was on the fence when these were announced, and remained on the fence until a few hours ago (I had only really been interested in Part 5 due to the inclusion of the alternate opening/cut footage. After reading some of the reviews though, I decided I at least wanted the original, Part II, and Part 5. I'll get the others later I've so compelled. My local Best Buy had Halloween and Halloween II in stock to my surprise (with only a couple left of each), so I went and grabbed them tonight. I was surprised by how sturdy the slip boxes were these. I have Part 5 ordered from Amazon (which is the one I'm most interested in getting), but it's not estimated to arrive for at least a week and a half.

There also was a 1997 version that is non anamorphic and plagued with print marks and artifacts.
speaking of print marks and what not, what version is on Shudder and airs on AMC? as thats anamorphic but plagued with print marks and scratches and overall a dirty look |

So im going to through the film right now. No HDR on by the way. But after seeing the capsaholic shot of Marion Chambers running out of the car in the beginning I went back while mid watch and WOW!!! It looks ugly going frame by frame as all the red that appears on her looks like macroblocking city. Even early on it seems like there were some issues with compression on the opening title sequence. As there was some weird artifacting from the glow. Really disappointed to see such issues on a 4k disc that not only has a healthy bitrate but one that isn't just crammed onto a bd-66.
Also why the F#%# would they include the 2007 version yet again? It made sense for the 15 disc set as they had to utilise pre-existing discs for some films or in the case of Halloween so that they could have certain extras. But not only was it completely unnecessary. It defeats the purpose of including the extended cut. As that version of the film is ridiculously compressed. Upon skimming that version was mostly at dvd level mbps and the highest it would reach was the low teens. Which caused very noticeable artifacting and compression issues to appear and made it unwatchable for me. The t.v. edit and even more so the extended cut should've taken precedence bitrate wise not the awful 2007 color timed version. Last edited by Jedihunter; 10-06-2021 at 04:05 AM. |

It’s Shout! They couldn’t do proper compression if their lives depended on it. This should be a given by now. A Universal Constant like the speed of light in vacuum. But they got a lot right here. A lot. More right than any other home video release, by a mile.

I would argue that that’s part of the mystery. If we had no knowledge of Michael at all, we could assume he had a horrible and traumatic childhood, or that he was born insane. The fact that he came from a seemingly normal family and was a seemingly normal child contributes to the mystery and lack of explanation for his behavior.

"2021 Shout Factory UHD: A lossy transcode of the DVD mastering. Funny that the previous Shout blu-ray actually was lossless! Anyway, this sounds bad because it's the same horrible manipulated DVD-era track, not because it's 'fake' lossless." Granted this might be someone's opinion, but what do you think we should do here? Ask Shout! to do a replacement program (for all the discs?)? |

I mean other issues I noticed was how smeared and little detail there was when Laurie first gets cut by Michael. It should be much better looking there than it is and not look so smoothed over. Also just because they are known to have issues with compression or encodes doesn't mean it's something that should be accepted. Especially if us fans/collectors want things to improve |

1. THX disc is something that in no way resembles the photo-chemical color presentation, by definition (due to the use of digital tools to color only parts of the frame, like fall leaves) 2. The Lionsgate 4K, while I do own it, is something I've never watched; only bought it 'cuz it was the only 4K option for awhile, as a kind of future-proofing; would never watch Halloween without original mono (filtered or unfiltered) unless I absolutely had to. |

Seriously though, it’s staggering how something can have an average rate of nearly 80 Mb/s like H2 (with momentary peaks as high as 140 mb/s) and yet still render the grain so poorly. |
