I'm not a proponent of the dream thing, that would have p1ssed me off more than the real ending(s). Other than being let down by the ending(s), I also thought it was bunk that they didn't show more of the retaliation in Mexico.

Other than the issues with the story, the different cuts is the worst issue I have. Stallone has generally been great about releasing ultimate cuts and easily picked up. Why the F there isn't a definitive release is BS and the reason why I haven't picked it up yet

You may pay a few extra bucks for shipping and it may take a little longer than normal to arrive but go with this release, trust me.

I find myself buying more and more titles out of Germany. Their mediabooks and boutique offerings are quite compelling and often surpass what is being offered on this side of the pond when it comes to quality.

I understand not everyone has region free equipment (though if you collect physical media, there is absolutely no better investment you can make than a proper A/B/C switchable region free player) there are still many region free titles and with 4k there is no concern at all.

Only caveat I would mention, is to be careful when not buying english language titles from EU countries. In most cases they will not have english subtitles, occasionally they do but this is the exception. Always verify when buying a non english, or non native tongue title before ordering. I will also point out that some (although I have only encountered a few so far and oddly enough they all came from france) non english releases can force subtitles on you when using the english audio track. I am not referring to hardcoded subtitles, but forced subtitles. It is one of the most annoying things I have ever seen from a publisher, luckily I have a player than can move the subtitles but even then they are not entirely gone. More than one line subtitles top line is still visible even when forcing them as low as possible. The titles that I have had this issue with were from 2 publishers out of france, ESC Editions and Pathe. Most titles released by the aforementioned are not an issue, but I have come across a few.

Hope this is helpful.
No english subs on the German release?

German disc has English subtitles only for the parts that are in Spanish, so if you choose English language from the menu you get English forced subs for those parts. If you want to watch the whole movie with subtitles, those are only available in German.

That’s too bad. I want full subs.

I have the extended Nordic release, but it does not have DV or Atmos.

Great-looking disc although there were some noisy scenes. Audio was a step down from what I expected. Barely any overhead usage. Was weird seeing Rambo outside of a war setting. The flashbacks to previous movies were nice. I wonder if there is any chance of getting a 6th film to finish the series.

This is a source of contention for Stallone, as he now has no control/say over the series. The current plan is to have a movie set during "the war", showing the events which turned him into the damage veteran found in First Blood. Stallone was hoping that interstitial sequences would be shot with him, aiding continuity and providing context, but he was disappointed by their response.

It wouldn't be a surprise if this is going to be a full reboot, and that the war is one of the more recent ones in the Middle East. Turning down Stallone's offer to do linking material suggests they want start things afresh - otherwise, they'd be mad not to have him assist continuity.

I thought the prequel/reboot plan had morphed into a TV show, or am I an iteration behind at this point?

Regardless, it's sad to see Sly has now lost control of both Rocky and Rambo, going forward.

Not sure which format they are going for, but whichever it is, they don't want Stallone back.

As to why they might wipe the slate clean and go with the Middle East - when you mention Vietnam to people under 40, a large percentage immediately think of world travel. To everyone else, the war is the first thing they associate with it. Although the book First Blood is inherently about 'Nam, the old standby of "keeping the essence/spirit of the novel" can always be brought into play.

I think there's also definitely a sense amongst younger generations who are familiar with the Vietnam War that "we shouldn't have been there," so I'd say it's unlikely that modern 2023 audiences will feel inclined to sympathise with a US soldier during the conflict unfortunately.

Not that I would want the story retold anyway - it was done just fine in First Blood if you ask me, and I certainly don't need to see that character's origins told/retold ad infinitum. Do another one with Sly, or just let it rest I say.

So much of the last one was Sly's stunt double anyway. I love the guy but he's getting a bit long in the tooth for these sorts of movies.

I didn't hate Last Blood but, if this is truly going to be final film in the series, they squandered an opportunity to truly go all out with a bang storywise. This was just another generic action movie about cartels.

I agree, Rambo took on way more in p2. Sly really underdelivered in this one.

Last I had heard, someone wanted to do a Rambo reboot/streaming series.

How about instead, make a NEW series about a vet with PTSD that is inspired by Rambo? It's that easy and you might actually get a new Rambo-like IP. Stop remaking/rebooting existing franchises that no one is going to like.

As for Last Blood, I really liked it a lot. It's such a short and easy watch. While it's not a traditional Rambo film, with Stallone's age, it didn't need to be. It was his "Unforgiven" and gave the character a bit of closure.

Before Last Blood, Stallone was considerig Rambo 5 a sci-fi movie with him hunting a half-man/half-animal super soldier almost like a Predator movie. That would have been awful and made a mockery of the entire franchise.

And then get sued for ripping off Rambo.

Much easier to reboot familiar IP.

It should have ended with 4 instead of releasing 5. Which looks like a direct to video level movie.

Man I could not agree more. I am in love with capelight media and the media books they put out. Also where else can you get Syngenor on blu ray in a media other than Germany.

The film implied that John Rambo died sitting on his porch at the end, so it seems that the story is over already. I would assume it would need to be a reboot if they are moving forward with more Rambo product.

That wasn't at all the impression I was left with.

Either way, much as THE LAST CRUSADE will always be the "real" ending of the Indiana Jones series for me, Stallone's RAMBO (JOHN RAMBO) will be this series' logical end point. LAST BLOOD stunk in every possible way, thematically, stylistically and otherwise.
