Great upscale to 4K detail.
It's the only one of the 3 that I really liked. Normally I can watch and enjoy all sequels (JP, Child's Play, Saw, Leprechaun, SW, Marvel, Transformers, etc) , but I just like the first movie in this case. |

2 is unwatchable. 3 is somewhat entertaining.

My favorite was actually the second one. The first was pretty good but the third one didn't have any escaping from a prison which I thought was the whole point of the series. Wasn't a bad movie per se but they should have just called it something else.

Escape Plan 2 & 3 were terrible DTV sequels.

This is still one of my favorite movies.
I wish Studios would have the mentality of "fill the disc" (to provide best quality possible). For 2.8K upscale, the movie looks good, but could get even better. The Bd100 used had more to give. Maybe later it would be remastered for even more detail and color. I don't want to use the B word, but there was some occasional faint banding. Maybe Sony's smooth gradation would help. |

Escape Plan is a successful R rated fictional movie that had an estimated budget between $54-$70 million dollars, with box office sells of $137.3 million dollars. There has been a total of 3 Escape Plan movies with only the first one so far being released on the 4K Blu-ray format and the other two sequel movies being released on standard 1080P Blu-ray. The Escape Plan movies are fictional movies. Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are a couple of my all-time favorite actors. Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger have a professional business-like chemistry with each other when both actors are performing the job of their fictional characters on the screen. The movie has a joke that some people will find funny or not funny when the comment is made that “You hit like a vegetarian”. There is also a deleted scene on the 4K Blu-ray that mentions one of the fictional characters in the movie is a vegetarian. The audio commentary that is encoded with Dolby Prologic surround sound also briefly talks about the vegetarian scene in the movie and the deleted vegetarian scene.
Escape Plan was released on the 4K Blu-ray format on 6-5-2018. A total of 81.7GB of space out of 100GB is used on the triple layer 4K Blu-ray disc. A total of 45.8GB of space out of 50GB is used on the dual layer standard 1080P Blu-ray disc. Except for the Lionsgate preview trailers which are exclusive to the standard Blu-ray disc, 100% of the extra features are located on the triple layer BD-100 4K Blu-ray disc. While I understand that Lionsgate and other people do not want preview trailers playing at the beginning of the 4K Blu-ray disc before the main menu is reached, Lionsgate might want to consider placing the preview trailers in the bonus menu on the 4K Blu-ray disc so that one can at least manually play the trailers without having to swap discs. Escape Plan while placed on a native 4K Blu-ray disc, the source material comes from a 2K digital intermediate and was upscaled to simulated 4K before being placed on the disc at 3840 x 2160P. In the ideal world when there is money in the budget for future 4K Blu-ray title releases, a new state of the art 4K or 8K digital intermediate should be created instead of using the older 2k digital intermediate. This movie is in lossless 13.1 Dolby Atmos object based surround sound. Because of limitations with my display and A/V receiver the upscaled 4K Blu-ray disc was downscaled to 1080P, and the audio played back with 7.1 Dolby TrueHD core audio(audio sounded great). On my year 2016 OPPO UDP-203 Blu-ray player this BD-100 triple layer disc played back perfectly fine even while doing several reverse scans. |
