Really wish they would give us a unrated version as well. I read somewhere that had to cut out some of the more gory scenes to keep it a PG-13. Maybe that will be some of the extras or deleted scenes. Still waiting for Best Buy to put up their pre-order again.

If I'm not mistaken, a lot of these were unfinished and therefore there won't be an unrated home version. o

[Show spoiler]
The death of Morris should be intact, which was a letdown in the final version.

Quote:
His death could have been much worse. In the original cut of the film, the shark had bitten off the entire bottom half of Morris in the first nibble before going in for big bite No. 2 – the upper half.

Director Jon Turteltaub reluctantly trimmed the gory shot to keep "The Meg" from receiving an R rating.

"The camera had craned up to show that it's only Morris' head, shoulders and arms left. It’s just the top third of Rainn Wilson," Turteltaub says. "And it was freaking awesome."

Wilson didn't even know that the scene had been cut back.

"Really? The cut I saw, I was in half," Wilson says. "I’m disappointed. Especially since I’m finding it out from a USA TODAY reporter. But I guess they couldn't show half a corpse hanging from a bloody whale. Maybe it will be on the DVD."

He does have memories of shooting the scene aboard a 50-foot plastic foam whale dressed with blood, guts and blubber.

"They would spray it down with more blood and gore," he says. "They had this one area with hand holds built into the blubber, so I could pull myself up."

And this one is full of contradictions it seems

Quote:
Turteltaub actually filmed some gorier deaths, but during post-production the studio made the decision that The Meg would have to be a PG-13 film. So, well, bye bye gore.

“We shot or even did a lot of visual effects for [gory scenes],” Turteltaub explained. “We just realized there’s no way we’re keeping this PG-13 if we show this. It’s too fun a movie to not let people who don’t like blood and people who are under, say, 14 years old into the theater. I was very hesitant to cut out a lot of blood and gore.”

Sadly, the visual effects on those cut scenes weren’t ever finished, so we don’t expect to see them on home video. After all, it’d cost the studio millions to finish them. Sigh.

The movie needed more deaths, gory or not. The killcount was probably less than 10.

Go head-to-head with the largest prehistoric shark to ever exist when “The Meg” arrives on 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD Special Edition and Digital. Jason Statham (“Spy,” “The Fate of the Furious,” “The Expendables” films) and award-winning Chinese actress Li Bingbing (“Transformers: Age of Extinction,” “Forbidden Kingdom,” “The Message”) star in the science fiction action thriller “The Meg,” directed by Jon Turteltaub (the “National Treasure” movies).

The main cast of “The Meg” includes Rainn Wilson (TV’s “The Office”), Ruby Rose (“John Wick: Chapter 2,” TV’s “Orange is the New Black”), Winston Chao (“Skiptrace,” “Kabali”), Page Kennedy (TV’s “Rush Hour”), Jessica McNamee (“Battle of the Sexes,” TV’s “Sirens”), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (“The BFG,” upcoming “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”), Robert Taylor (“Kong: Skull Island,” TV’s “Longmire”), Sophia Cai (“Somewhere Only We Know”), Masi Oka (TV’s “Hawaii Five-0,” TV’s “Heroes”) and Cliff Curtis (“The Dark Horse,” TV’s “Fear the Walking Dead”).

Turteltaub directed the film from a screenplay by Dean Georgaris and Jon and Erich Hoeber, based on the best-selling novel “MEG” by Steve Alten. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Belle Avery and Colin Wilson produced the film, with Gerald R. Molen, Wei Jang, Randy Greenberg, Catherine Xujun Ying, Chantal Nong and Barrie M. Osborne serving as executive producers.

Turteltaub’s behind-the-scenes team included Oscar-nominated director of photography Tom Stern (“Sully,” “American Sniper,” “The Hunger Games”), Oscar-winning production designer Grant Major (“The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, “King Kong”), editor Steven Kemper (“The Last Stand,” “Mission: Impossible II”), editor Kelly Matsumoto (“Star Trek: Beyond,” “Fast and Furious 6”) and costume designer Amanda Neale (“Truth,” “Pete’s Dragon”). The music is composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (“The Martian,” the “Equalizer” films, the “Shrek” franchise).

Warner Bros. Pictures and Gravity Pictures present a di Bonaventura, Apelles Entertainment Inc., Maeday Productions, Inc. and Flagship Entertainment Group Production film by Jon Turteltaub, “The Meg.” The film will be distributed in China by Gravity Pictures and throughout the rest of the world by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of “The Meg” will feature Dolby Vision HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range and uses dynamic metadata to automatically optimize the picture for every screen, frame by frame. The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of “The Meg” will also feature a Dolby Atmos® soundtrack remixed specifically for the home theater environment to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead. To experience Dolby Atmos at home, a Dolby Atmos enabled AV receiver and additional speakers are required, or a Dolby Atmos enabled sound bar. Dolby Atmos soundtracks are also fully backward compatible with traditional audio configurations and legacy home entertainment equipment.

“The Meg” will also be available on Movies Anywhere. Using the free Movies Anywhere app and website, consumers can access all their eligible movies by connecting their Movies Anywhere account with their participating digital retailer accounts.

Fans can also own “The Meg” via purchase from digital retailers beginning October 30.

SYNOPSIS

A deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, former deep-sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is drawn out of self-imposed exile by a visionary Chinese oceanographer, Dr. Zhang (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter, Suyin (Li Bingbing), who thinks she can rescue the crew on her own. But it will take their combined efforts to save the crew, and the ocean itself, from this seemingly unstoppable threat—a prehistoric 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. Thought to be extinct, the Meg turns out to be very much alive…and on the hunt.

Five years before, Jonas had encountered this same terrifying creature, but no one had believed him. Now, teamed with Suyin, Jonas must confront his fears and risk his own life to return to the ocean depths…bringing him face-to-face once more with the apex predator of all time.

Warner is just messing things up. UK had different temp cover.

These covers are still not final final. The HDR labels don't have the Dolby logos on it.

I love shark movies! But to be honest, I always walk way disappointed. Only Jaws was good. It's been over 40 years now and no movie even comes close to being as good. Is this movie any different??

The best I can say about it is that I enjoyed the scenes with Statham, as he was the only thing that kept it from feeling like a made-for-TV-movie. And I guess it wasn't the worst movie I've seen this year (
[Show spoiler]that would be The Nun
).

Your safest bet with this one is to keep your expectations low for the movie itself and hopefully the solid PQ and audio will keep you entertained.

You didn't like Deep Blue Sea? Even though the movie was ridiculed by many reviewers (which I always take movie reviews with a grain of salt) because I want to see the movie(s) for myself but, I thought Deep Blue Sea was pretty good.

I wish WB would put out Deep blue Sea on 4k with this.

Rewatched it this past weekend and still find it very enjoyable.
