I wonder what shape the source is in.
1. The film doesn’t have a DI.
2. I saw the film in glorious 35mm weeks before it’s theatrical release from Artisan.
3. The extended cut is +/- 30 seconds as it’s only a brief scene added.

Lionsgate either went back to the negative or a 35mm print to create the 4K master. Or for all we know they upconverted the Blu-ray which already looked like it was upconverted from the DVD.

Great another duplicate created by the Blu-ray.com crew:

Another duplicate that won't be removed like countless others.

Anyone know if the recently released blu-ray with digital copy has a new transfer, or is it the same as the original release?

Comedies that I could watch every year would be great to project in 4k like Vacation, The Naked Gun movies, Caddyshack, etc.

Yes, but where are they getting the extended from? A D5 tape? A HDTV master they make a film out from?

I predict it's a goof and the unrated is BD only, ala Dirty Grandpa.

Like Van Wilder alot, but this release in 4K is odd. I know these are different studios, but where is The Abyss, Armageddon, Twister, Pixels, Pearl Harbor, We Were Soldiers, Avatar, Tron: Legacy, iRobot?

I feel action flicks benefit the most with 4K upgrades, esp in the audio dept. (I know the Pixels Blu has Atmos, but the colors in HDR DV would be fantastic). All these catalogs coming out (MIB, SVPR, Apollo 13, Braveheart, Gladiator, E.T.) have been awesome and I am poorer because of it. Again I love Van Wilder, but it seems a weird choice, kinda like if the studious started to upgrade Rom-Com's to 4K before their action flix. That's my 2 cents (I know studios couldn't care less about my opinion tho)

If comedies like these can get released. Then I think Superbad (2007) deserves to be on 4k. That movie is a classic comedy movie and one that will always be remembered. I already own the Blu-Ray and have watched it on my Lg OLED using my sony X800 4k player. It actually looks pretty impressive upscaled to 4k from just the Blu-Ray. Imagine what it would look like if Sony scanned the original 35mm film negative in 4K.

I bought the 4K DV iTunes copy and it's a mixed bag. The DNR is gone but the film seems a bit dim and I can't tell if there's a whole lot of new detail. The Unrated cut is 4K DV but the theatrical is HD. They look similar as far as detail goes..
