Doesn’t say a studio yet, link isn’t working but it’s Lionsgate’s price point of $17.99.

I'd love it if the original (in both aspect ratios) AND both cuts of the remake are coming out in 4K this October through their respective rights owners.

Man, I love these movies so much.
I have bought each of them at least 5 times over the last 20+ years. I don't regret it.
The blu-ray of The Evil Dead is quite beautiful.

Then again... it's one of those movies that I love to watch in a lo-fi kind of environment and attitude. Being 16mm doesn't bother me, since pixels aren't everything (and how many times do we have to tell people that(?!)). Better compression could even more nicely refine the grain structure, let alone all the goodness in the COLORS! COLOURS!! that the new format provides. Oh, and resolution in darker sections of the movie, which there is some. Maybe, though, there would be too MUCH clarity and resolution in certain parts, making the movie look too good for it's own right.

What happens to me, though, is I see a nice 4k transfer and I start drooling and going semi-comatose, and the idea of too much clarity in a lo-fi movie goes out the window once reality kicks in.

Looking forward to seeing what this one has to offer.

Hopefully, if it's the original, it's ONLY in OAR 1,33. No need for a cropped widescreen version. Hopefully they have the integrity that Criterion and Romero did and only issued the proper and correct AR for Night of the Living Dead, and didn't appease the "fill your screen" people at the sake of original compositions.

The OAR is 1.66:1. The Evil Dead was always meant to play in theaters, and 1.33:1 wasn't exactly a conventional aspect ratio for theatrical exhibition when its cameras were rolling. There's a whole thing about it in The Evil Dead Companion, including the premiere being the only time during its original theatrical run where it was projected full-frame.

I hope it is the 2013 because I’m satisfied with the blu for the original and I want the Unrated Cut of the remake.

I hated the 2013 film... was a struggle to sit through. I am amazed at how many fans love it but to each their own.

4k UHD movies are region-free.

Ah, bummer. I know the 2013 film has it's fans. Hell I, kind of liked it. For me to love it I'd have to do a fan edit and delete some stuff in the beginning that I didn't agree with. Overall it was decent, rather liked the higher production value, hated the look and aesthetics of the deadites (ooh black, red paint on faces and contacts lenses). It had more potential. But really was excited and looking forward to the original.

Well the bad news is we're not getting the better movie.

The good news is we're getting another Sony release.

As has been said The Evil Dead was composed and was intended to be seen in 1.66:1. It was only shown in a fullscreen ratio during its premiere because the theater weren't capable of matting it or something.

It was matted to 1.85:1 for general release and this has carried over for home video since TVs are 16:9 now and not 4:3. It was always intended to be a widescreen film.

If I remember the audio commentary by Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert on the original Blu-ray release correctly they say that they intended for the film being 1.33:1 because they never expected it to get a big release. They say that movies like this were shown in drive in cinemas a lot and those were mostly 1.33:1 at that time...

But if this release is really the 2013 remake it doesn't matter anyway.

I think the 2013 movie will come sooner rather than later, but it has to be the unrated for me.

Anyway Evil Dead 2 is my favorite movie of all time, The Evil Dead my second favorite. Now with both movies hitting UHD, what more could a fan ask for (besides the cut footage from ED2)?

The bluray is one of the best on the format.
It will be fine if the same master is used and they don't do something silly like a filmout

This is the quote from Bill Warren's "The Evil Dead Companion", just for the sake of completion:

Quote:
Apart from the title, the movie shown that night [during the premiere] is the movie you see today, with only one other difference -- Sam had composed the film for a 1.66:1 aspect ratio (that is, the image was 1.66 times as wide as it was high; 1.85:1 is today's standard), but 16mm occupies the full 1.37:1 'Academy Standard' aperature, the way films were projected up until the early 1950s. The Redford Theater accommodated the old ratio, so that's how Book of the Dead was projected for the premiere, and it's never been shown that way again.
