“You’re late!”

“Lord of the Rings on UHD is never late, nor is it early. It arrives precisely when it means to!”

Finally! My most hoped for catalogue title is finally coming. Hopefully it includes both cuts in one big package to satisfy everyone. But I cannot wait!

In my opinion they'll release everything at once and this is the reason it took so long.
My thinking is obviously money. But I like to be surprised.

Thought this was a wishlist thread at first and jumped up when I found out it was real! Amazing news, hopefully they'll do both versions!

Hate to be a debbie downer, but I feel like I should lower my expectations a little though, this'll probably just be an upscale of the old early 2000's 2K scan right? Early 2000's 2K DI's seem to fare the worst on UHD.

Pretty happy this isn't coming out 'too' soon, considering how much I have been spending lately...

It's crazy, they should have made two movies and leaned it more towards a children's fantasy than a massive epic. Get someone like Christopher Columbus (Harry Potter) to direct it. I thought the trilogy was tonally all over the place.

If you don't mind my asking. What are the differences with regards to the extras/Bonus material on the Theatrical Cut compared to the Extended Cuts?

I think that was sarcasm.

I would like to see a condensed director's cut of the Hobbit that's only 2 hrs long.

In all six movies, the theatrical bonus features are more “fluff”- short featurettes (still worth watching though. I love the video diaries for the Hobbit movies that were on Facebook and I’m glad they were included). But the features on the extended cuts are WAY more in-depth and go into so much detail about everything. I need to watch them again lol.

Yes, Return is the only one that feels bloated to me. I also hate how
[Show spoiler]they killed off the surprise aspect regarding the Army of the Dead joining in with the EE.

My preference of viewing would be: Fellowship EE, Two Towers EE, and Return theatrical.

As far as how these will turn out PQ-wise, I am cautiously optimistic.

Does anyone know if the special effects for these were done in 2 or 4k initially?

Awesome news! Day 1.

Another vote for de-tealing Fellowship's EE color timing.

OMG yes. I just the Hobbit thread and then this.

I waited forever to buy the extended edition box sets of LotR and the Hobbit, but the UHD's will be day 1 for me.

Absolutely cannot wait.

I’m 100% down for these, but I’ll be upset if it’s just the theatrical cuts. I personally prefer the Extended Editions, but honestly it would be unfortunate if it’s just one or the other- people should have choice, so both cuts in 4K, I say!
