I am super excited for this but really disappointed that they are not doing a immersive audio track.....UHD is not all about the picture.

And I should have just checked the site lol. Amazing what happens when you ditch an HD Blu-ray. Looks like you are paying the same price for both separately as a forced bundled UHD. Perish the thought being given the choice just to have a UHD. What kind of sorcery is this! Oh yeah, it's business acumen.

I immediately got super excited about this and Flash Gordon on 4K UHD and Arrow jumping all in on the format but then a reality kicked in for me in which they can possibly start releasing even more films that would be must own titles like THE THING and potentially so many others that my wallet sobbed.

"16:19 widescreen" suggests SD (if it was HD, why wouldn't they say it's "for the first time in HD!"), but the DTS-MA audio suggests HD. |

"All of the Above" is still a ways away, because there's still Cinema Guild, Cohen, Film Movement, Grasshopper, Hen's Tooth, Arbelos, Olive, Scorpion, and probably some others that aren't coming to mind.

Feels sooo good when smaller companies like arrow, scream factory, vinegarsyndrome, and others alike release 4k movies.

It's Universal's fault, not Arrow Video's. Universal didn't want to spend money to create an immersive audio mix using Dolby Atmos or DTS-X. The DTS-HD MA mix on the disc probably has the original DTS-ES mix intact, so that's the best you can get.

I still lol'ed though. And when it comes to the major minors then Criterion are the biggest without a doubt. I wouldn't expect every single indie to go UHD but when the other top dogs (Arrow, Shout, Kino) have at least tried it out and some smaller outfits (Blue Underground, Synapse, Vinegar Syndrome) have also got involved then it makes Criterion look like bums. Or luddites, even. But then this is the same company that refused to do anamorphic 16:9 transfers for DVD for a while because of some nonsense pertaining to how they looked on 4:3 TVs, and after hearing Criterion's Lee Kline talk rubbish about how 4K needs some giant projektion to make it worthwhile then it's the same shit, different millennium.

The snobby mentality at Criterion HQ remains it seems.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. |
