Yeah, and Biblical philosophy, art, and history can be (and should be, I think) of interest to anyone regardless of whether they actually believe it because it’s a significant part of most of our world. Not that The Ten Commandments necessarily excels in any of those three categories!

Now, the kind of Christian exploitation films that pop up all the time today - those are a better fit for Carlos’ point.

Agreed. I may not be a believer but it's a massive part of the history of western culture. That's party why I dig Ben-Hur so much, its themes of persecution still echo today but I love how Jesus' story is taking place in the background.

Unlike many of the more somber Biblical epics, The Ten Commandments is a great big over-the-top Hollywood entertainment that should appeal to anyone, religious or not. In fact, if looked at as an old world superhero story, you should have a lot of fun with both the soaring heroes and hissable villains and spectacular feats.

The performances by Ann Baxter and Yul Brynner are sublime camp - and wholey believable at the same time! -- And in HD you can see all the fine beading on Nefertiri's gowns and the vibrant Technicolor hues! One of my favorite films.

Ben-Hur is possibly my favorite movie. Ever. (easily top-5 at least) Best "tale of the Christ" that (as you noted) doesn't focus on Jesus at all. The epic scope, with a story as human as it gets: showing love, pain, suffering, vengeance, tragedy, bitterness, betrayal, hate, longing, and redemption in such a way that is beautiful and real. Acting style in moments is a product of the time to be sure, but in that context, it is stellar. Technically speaking, I adore the framing of so many scenes, the pacing, the spectacle of the set pieces that are just cool. The visual scale, with so much in each scene to devour. I love the movie.

For sheer spectacle? No.

For fidelity to ancient texts? Both take liberties, but Prince of Egypt is a much more "faith"-ful adaptation.

Ben-Hur represents the pinnacle of certain large format long form movies that you simply don't see today. They told extremely long elaborate stories, with deep characters and a grand epic scope - it is like the experience of reading a novel.

You don't see this level of storytelling in movies today. Today they would make it a series or something.

But back then they took the time and space to tell this story is a motion picture and it is glorious.

Special note to the music score - one of the greatest ever too.

And Heston - as the paragon of leading men. We don't have leading men like this anymore. You can't imagine many of our "leading men" type actors being able to carry a film of this scope anymore.

Yes. At the very least it’s a movie you have to see once...

It's the Old Testament according to Cecil B. Demill. Historically accurate it is not. History of the World, Pt. 1 is, however. Remember, there were 15 Commandments. Oops!

I always get this mixed up with History of the World Part I:

Both Digitalbits (The Ten Commandments (US/UK) – TBA 3/30/2021 – N4K, DV) and HDMovieSource (https://www.hdmoviesource.com/The-Te...ay-p/13396.htm) are listing it, but maybe they got the info the same place we did. The interesting part is that both of them list it with Dobly Vision. Something that the original listing does not.

Just out of curiosity, which current model LED could have possibly made you want to swap out your OLED? Or do you have 2 sets?
