Yeah, normally stabbing someone in the neck, eye, and stomach is going to put them out of commission.

What would it have been? A documentary?

At this stage in the movie Laurie is in a state of shock, suffering physical and emotional trauma from the prior events. I think JLC acted out the events perfectly.

So how is that Dolby Digital Mono track on the 2007 disc? Is it comparable to the LD mix or is it the same thing the Shout discs got just not lossless (filtered or whatever).

Same as the prior Shout blu, only lossy this time apparently.

Honestly though, I tried watching the new 4K with the OG mono track but just wasn't a fan. Even after cranking up the volume several notches it still sounded quite filtered and flat. For better or worse, it's never going to be my preferred track of choice when watching the film.

Yep, dynamics seems crushed. I watched it on Halloween coming out of the center channel and I was sitting right near the system, I enjoyed it, was nice hearing it without the remix effects, but can't imagine watching this track with a room full of people, it just doesn't soar that high. Would be interested to hear the LD mix sometime.

What center speaker are you using?

Sounds fine and fills the room with my Klipsch RP-504C.

I have the best center speaker ever made, the speaker is fine.

It sounded very clear on my set up. Much clearer than some mono from the era. I was satisfied.

It's not a big deal or anything, but what would have caused that?

The second image is brightened to make it more obvious, in case your monitor is calibrated as dark as mine.

It's an anamorphic lens flare.

The mono track plays just fine in a room full of people for me. I screen it every year in my home theater to different groups of friends, and I always give the disclaimer that they have to put up with the original mono if they're going to see it with me -- and it always goes over great.

Frankly, the mono is all I've ever listened to; like, literally ever. I tried the remix for about twenty seconds of the opening credits once, back when the Lionsgate UHD came out... but it just didn't sound like "Halloween" to me, so I stopped watching and switched back over to the boxed set's 35th Anniversary disc. Never had a problem with the mono sounding filtered or muffled or whatever. I used to own the LaserDisc -- it was a Day One purchase for me back in the 90's -- but back then I only used TV speakers, so I never even noticed a changeover to this era of "filtered" mono. If it weren't for these forums making me realize how dissatisfied I should feel (lol), I would still be blissfully ignorant and probably NEVER notice a problem with it.

Do I wish it was the better mono from the LD, now that I know better? Sure; what's better is better, no argument there. But am I content with what we've been given on every single disc since the 90's: including the 2007 Blu, the boxed set's 35th Anniversary Blu, and the new UHD? Absolutely content; sounds like "Halloween" to me.

But I said I enjoyed the mono mix, did I not? I'm just saying the dynamics are crushed, and they are, there's a Youtube video comparison someone did with the Criterion audio. And I'm not going to argue with people about what sounds good on different equipment, in different rooms, hitting different sets of ears, that is never going to accomplish anything.

If I compare the mono mix on this to the mono mix in Phantasm or Repo Man, it's night and day to me on my system in my house, so something was futzed with at some point and we've been stuck with it. My ears are fine and my speakers are fine. I'd also offer the argument that the Criterion audio doesn't lie, I have it and it's just the way it should sound imo.

Hey whoa there, tiger... I wasn't attacking you at all. I was very politely addressing just the bit you said about listening to the mono track with "a room full of people". Then I went on my own riff from there. And I even went so far as to say the Criterion mono WAS better (because I've heard those comparison videos, which've been posted here a thousand times). I was simply saying that in a proverbial vacuum, without being A/B'd with the Criterion, I was perfectly happy with the so-called "filtered mono".

What are the chances we see the rest of the movies get a 4K release? Did we only get the first 5 because of a rights thing from Shout?

6, 7, and 8, plus the first Zombie film are all Dimension/Weinstein.

I never thought we'd see an official release of the Producers Cut of 6 on DVD let alone blu-ray. Anything is possible when money is on the table. If it's gonna happen I'm thinking next October with Ends.

I could see Shout pushing for them real hard, if the current 5 releases are selling very well.

Which I believe are now with Lantern, but they'd be pretty likely to work with a boutique label like Scream Factory for pretty dormant film assets.
