FWIW "international" studio home vid divisions administer their release slates and make decisions largely independent of the US offices. They're basically like a different company.

Although we as sound quality buffs think of this as an "audio" issue, it's importance from an international release administration perspective is eclipsed by the language and subtitle issues. As you perhaps know, that Scandinavian (and Finnish/Danish/Swedish) disc you mention has Portuguese and Thai language tracks and subtitles in nine languages. The second thing we see upon pressing Play is a choice between 11 different menu languages. That's all prepared as part of that release's package, not to mention all the respective rating icons for the respective countries and verbiage for the back cover. It's simpler for a US disc. Even if there were no legal issue with what is a different entity making an audio track available to another division of the studio (and it IS an issue), doing so would make a complicated situation even more tedious.

AFAIC the issue isn't why whatever international division has what they have in terms of lossless on the first three pics. Rather, it's why the US 'mothership' hasn't manned up and upgraded the US releases' audio to lossless. I'm surprised they didn't do the usual hustle and release (only) a box set at some point with three or four or five of the pictures in there with new lossless remasters and the only way to get them was to buy the damn box.

HDD review should not be taken seriously. It’s the same reviewer who reviewed Inception saying there is blooming and over cooked Contrast, he is saying the same for M:I 1. His panel is low nit and has poor WCG. He also said it’s upscaled.

I’m waiting until mine arrives Tuesday to judge. I’m still very excited to own these in 4K.

Get out the grain-o-meter. If the little red needle moves all the way to the right we've got grain and lots of it. If the needle doesn't move we've got DNR.
