I paid $19.39 at Amazon on 12/22, or thereabouts. It's selling for $17.99 right now on Amazon. But I don't see $10 happening. And, like I said, the price will increase once they stop printing new ones.

My copy ordered from Amazon a couple days ago came with a slipcover. For what it's worth, my Spartacus disc from the same order came slip-less. A couple months ago, I ordered Allied 4k, a title that released in 2017, and it came with a slip. Stand By Me, issued on 4k in 2019 and ordered by me in June 2021, also had a slip. Amazon is a lottery.

I’ve had better luck with slips on Paramount releases long after release than any other studio, so I feel like your chances are good.

Let's hope for $10

although anywhere from $10 to $14.99 my trigger finger will get itchy.

Why should I hope for that? I already own it, so going to $50 or even $100 will be great.

Forrest Gump is much more popular than The Ten Commandments so definitely an exception.

I was able to review this movie in UHD format and I think the differences from bluray are subtle but welcome.

The bluray is already very good and this UHD comes to improve with subtle improvements in detail, color and dynamic range.

The improvement in details is minimal, in color too except for a few colors here and there, and in dynamic range we can find an improvement in the lights and reflections of weapons, jewelry and clothing, but he does it in a restrained way.

I am a fan of the film and I appreciate these small improvements, but the bluray is very good too.

In short, it is a good and correct transfer of a classic to UltraHD

Except for the motion smear. That's a big disappointment.

Admittedly, I did not do a side by side comparison of the 2011 Blu-Ray release (or the Blu-Ray included with the UHD release) and the new 4K UHD. But I was wowed by the 4K UHD. I didn't find the improvement subtle. But, again, I was going only from memory and it's been at least a year since I last watched the Blu-Ray.

The wow factor tends to come from the VistaVision origination rather than the UHD presentation itself. If you were to compare them then the UHD is very, very close to the BD. There is a fraction more refinement to detail in 4K, not much in the way of extra highlight detail and the colour is altered a wee bit, IIRC it's a bit tealier than the BD. They've clipped the blacks on the UHD, it's not as damaging as on something like Wolf of Wall Street (yikes) but it certainly zaps the shadow detail that's visible on the BD. They did some more work on the opticals though, they've tidied up the flickering and made them more stable than they are on the BD.

fyi... the slip version is missing a disc, if you care about extras or the other version of the film. The steelbook release contains everything.

But all it's missing is the 1923 film, right?

No, the disc with the 1923 film contains the excellent making of documentary about the 1956 feature.

Anyone having playback issues with the UHD disk?

I first had to update my player to even load the menu. Ok fine, but at around 2 hours 22 mind in (I think) the image will freeze and I get done garbage on the screen, the movie eventually picks up a few moments later. This, so far, is the only spot in the film with this issue.

Anyone else having trouble? Should I try to get a new disk? I received this as a gift so not even sure how I would do that...
