I know nothing about that player, but I have no problems with my OPPO 203. Not sure about other players.

Have you tried cleaning the disc?

Sonys are known for being a bit finicky with playback at times. I actually moved my x800 to the bedroom a long time ago after buying the Panny 820, just because the latter was a more reliable player.

I have also experienced some playback issues. However, I requested a change and now it works perfectly.

My X700 froze at the fire hail scene last year when I got the disc but I cleaned and reloaded disc and the scene played fine. I bought the UB820 player since and plan on watching the disc tonight so we'll see but I've played 30-40 discs without issue so pretty sure it was the Sony player. Knock knock

Ok, yes, I guess it's the player. I took a look again at the same scene and it's working just fine. Might be time to get a new player, want DV output anyway...

This is the same disc that was in the mammoth 6 disc blu-ray box set of yesteryear, correct?

Already ordered the Slip version before I saw your reply. Does the two disc Blu-ray originally released contain the same documentary you mention or is it a new Doc for the 4K release? Thanks.

It is missing the disc with the 1920s film and whatever is on that disc.

I prefer the art on the regular release and own the old BD box so I am just going to remain where I am, though I wouldn't mind a solo release for the earlier film.

Is the 1920 silent film on a bluray disc in that box?

Should be the same one, yep. (The other three discs in that set are DVDs that just duplicate the film & bonus content anyway.)

Pleasantly surprised this did come with a slipcover! More surprising is that Gladiator 4K came with a slip too in the same delivery. Both had plastic wrap around the slips. Last time I ordered Gladiator it never came with a slip.

What's the easiest way to know if the aspect ratio of 1.78:1 is a simple unmasking of what was above and below the original 1.85:1 ratio?

If it was enlarged to fit the 1.78:1 (16x9) ratio, I'm guessing information was cut off on the sides.

Hard matting in camera more than 1.66 was super-duper rare in the film business.

There are probably only a handful of films hard matted to 1.85 out there, so the 1.78 versions you see are adding a few scanlines above and below. They are OAR to me personally.

Ok cool, so that means we are not loosing any information on the sides due to the image being enlarged to fit horizontally. We are simply seeing a little bit more on the top and bottom than what was originally projected in the theatre.

Thanks
