Nice. Do the surround options still have new sound effects, missing stings, etc.? I get these releases confused. How's the Atmos track? No sync issues?

Far as I know there are no sync issues, but there are definitely altered stings and different sound effects.

Thanks. That's the Atmos track?

How about the 5.1/7.1? Same altered stings/sound effects?

Ah, it's all coming back to me (sort of). The mono is original but filtered. I guess all the surround tracks have altered sound effects?

I've noticed that, too. Bit weird if you ask me. If had women say "how can you watch (fictional) movies with all that violence?" then proceed to tell me about how much they enjoy (if that's the word) all those true crime/murder programmes. Go figure!

LOL, I thought I was the only nerd. I literally took pictures of the packaging for the new Shout DVD edition at Wal-Mart, as well as Lionsgate’s DVD reissues for the Zombie films.

Women are suckers for true crime documentaries. I get it to an extent as we're all morbidly curious about the dark side of humanity, but the way some of them talk about that new Dahmer show is proper weird. Yet the same women complain about Blonde being exploitative.

Every release of old films will have dirt on the optical audio track and damage. It's almost a half century old film. That OG holy grail Mono track is also filtered, and or more damaged than the OG print. Saying it is preferable to the Lionsgate 7.1 or Scream Factory new Atmos. I can believe if you only listen through your TV's built in speakers, but with Home Theater speakers? I can also believe people prefer the Lossless cleaned up surround mixes. They are all revisionist, unless you have a OG print that has never been spun I have issues with every Halloween 1978 audio track, they are all dirty-flawed mixes to me. The 7.1 and Atmos mixes at least have more Atmosphere and hit a new creepy factor, the damaged and filtered Mono have more nostalgia to them. It's inconsequential in the end to me. I mix it up every time I watch these new Scream factory's Mono, Stereo for II and up, then 7.1 or Atmos it gives them more replayability, and that's a neat feature to have as a fan along with TV cuts or producers cuts. No shame in owning everything

That multiplayer video game where you run from killers is played almost entirely by straight women and gay men. It's kind of hilarious! I cannot bring myself to play it though because it makes me cringe, it's like the video game form of those bad new-art horror movie covers...

Oh my God, my missus is currently studying video game design but she hates 99% of the class because they're all zoomers who say dumb shit. Apparently one girl was like, "I love Michael Myers!" despite having never watched a single Halloween film. Dead by Daylight was a mistake.

Last night I saw this on a large screen at Regal. I've seen the film several times but this was my first theatrical viewing. The print was soft in spots but still looked good overall. The musical cues really stood out during this viewing.

This is the first time I found myself thinking Carpenter was kind of a pervert when he filmed this. All of the stalking scenes with Michael just staring at the various girls (including young Michael), Annie getting butter on her clothes so she has to remove them, Annie getting stuck in the window with her panties pointed to the camera, Lynda's sex scene and murder.

She's powerful, I don't know if I'd have the energy to stay in the class. Torture!

Or you go above and beyond and sync the Criterion LD Mono Mix to the new 4K print... The definitive Halloween release until we get the 45th Anniversary next year!

He does have a point though in this case. The mono is filtered too much, and the Atmos track is superior in terms of atmosphere and dynamics and overall sound quality. It's just unfortunate that some sound effects and stings have been altered, otherwise it would be a solid track. The mono should sound better than it does.

Same situation with Shout's Black Christmas UHD - mono is very rough but the surround tracks, while vastly superior in sound quality, is totally botched due to sync issues and so many replaced sound effects. Thankfully all that is corrected with the upcoming UHD.

Sony's UHDs also seem to be building a track record of rough-sounding mono/original tracks too. The surround tracks sound far superior, but then those come with other issues.

And yet this release of Halloween could have been much better done in the audio department if they put some focus and resource time towards it, like SF has done with the upcoming Black Christmas 4K release.

What Halloween has going for it is the original audio elements are still available, which means that if they hired someone like Brett C to go back to those elements he could reverse all the mistakes made from the 1999 files and provide an original Mono mix that could potentially equal or better the Criterion LD mix AND provide a new Atmos mix using all of the original sound elements from the 1978 film, even if that means having to pull audio content from the Magnetic Master Mono Soundtrack.

True, that could be the case. I assumed it was about one being too scary and the other not, because of the wording.

I'm certainly aware women love their true crime. My mom is one of them! Hell, I'm pretty into that stuff too. Maybe it's my feminine side.
