I think the IP texture of this transfer makes for a great pairing with Shout's '18 steelbook edition of Halloween II; a rich, "whole-grain" double feature.
Haha, yup. And that steelbook edition has become my "Blu-ray backup" for Halloween II in my UHD case, instead of the newer BD that came with it. A truly stellar transfer; again, just barely edged out -- for me -- by the 4K disc. And I used to do the same thing to my saturation on that boxed-set disc of Halloween '78, but to get it "right" to my eyes it was a pretty intense increase, which made the credits go nuclear. I'm quite a bit happier with the 4K disc, but like I said: that boxed-set edition is THE super-solid 1080p second choice, for me.

It's great to have different editions to draw from, given the need. I had a nostalgic pang to spin up that ol' Anchor Bay Collector's Edition DVD the other day, the one with scene specific color adjustments to fall foliage, expansion of those nighttime Cundey Blues, etc. Something about the fun of popping that in, the terrific menus with the exploding pumpkin and CGI, floating Myers mask, the works. Uber-soft image by today's standards, but plenty serviceable back in its day, with original mono to boot (albeit lossy Dolby Digital). Good times.

Happy 44th anniversary to the one, the only, the classic; Halloween. Who remembers the first time they saw this film?

I was 12 and my dad brought over his old "Media Home Entertainment" VHS tape for me to watch. It took a few viewings but it became my favorite movie all through junior high and high school. To this day, whenever I watch this movie something feels missing without the "Media Home Entertainment" logo at the start of the movie!

First time I saw Halloween was also on that "Media" VHS release when I was 12, and you're absolutely right: that opening Media logo just went so well into the opening music. Also went great with Assault on Precinct 13. I occasionally YouTube that logo just to get those feels again.

I also watched it on VHS around that age. Wasn't that release though, it was a newer one.

The first time I watched it was on NBC in 1981; I was 8. It scared the crap outta me... but in a good way. It was fun looking under my bed and in my closet at night; I didn't do that until I saw Halloween. I kinda miss that.

It made me realize I liked horror movies, and 41 years later it's still the best scary movie I've seen. It's also my all-time favorite movie.

For what it's worth, none of the Michael Myers follow-ups are worth a damn. And yet, I keep watching them, hoping that they might get it right someday. They won't, of course.

I first watched it when I was 17. I was flipping through channels after coming home from school and it was on TV. Up to that point all I knew about Michael Myers was a couple VHS tapes I saw at video rental stores and I always thought the mask looked creepy. I think I missed the beginning of the movie and started watching about the time when the three girls were walking home from school. The part when Laurie looks out her window and it seems like Michael kind of disappeared right before her eyes intrigued me. I loved everything about the movie: the slowly building suspense, the creepiness, the music, etc. it’s what got me into horror movies and it’s been my favorite horror movie ever since.

My first viewing was a VHS rental as well (probably early 80s).

It appears 1979 was the first VHS release. Upon my search, I came across this article: original VHS sells for $13K on eBay in 2013.

It almost feels weird saying it given everyone else's multitude of formats (for this and every other movie it seems), but first viewing for me was the Lionsgate 4K release (after having seen the 2018 film, being the very first Halloween film I had ever seen).

First time seeing HALLOWEEN was back in '78 when it was first released. I was only 11 yrs. old, but my sister was 16 and her boyfriend at the time was 18, so he got us in. His best friend was an usher at the theater and told us a lot of people who saw the earlier shows were coming out and saying how scary it was. They were right...it scared this kid and I couldn't stop thinking about it after I left the theater. I was enamored with The Shape as was my sister's bf.

So much so, all three of us went the opening weekend of HALLOWEEN II three years later.

Media VHS for me… the accidental TV cut release. Naturally, the broadcast cut being included on Shout’s collector’s edition brought me a bunch of nostalgic joy.

This Halloween is a special one for me. It will be the 30th anniversary of the first time I saw Halloween. 1992 was a landmark year for me with horror. I was 11 and saw numerous horror films that year that ended up being truly iconic movie moments in my life. The first was seeing Alien 3 at the theatre (my first R-rated movie at the theatre as well) as well as seeing Halloween on cable TV for the first time on Halloween night that year. I also saw Cujo and Amityville Horror for the first time that Halloween. Earlier that year I saw Aliens, Child's Play and A Nightmare on Elm Street (as well as Predator and RoboCop 2). I vividly remember watching all of those especially Alien 3 and Halloween. Halloween traumatized me but also became my favorite horror film that viewing. I remember it literally kept me up all night tossing and turning. Of course, I couldn't wait to watch Halloween II the next morning only to find out our damn VCR didn't record it for some reason. Wasn’t too happy about that lol. Became obsessed with the franchise after that night and I mean OBSESSED.

Doubt what? That's the version I rented. I never said it was the first release. I was 12 in 1991!

Believe my first time seeing was on HBO, I was 7 or 8. I think I may have seen Halloween II first. Favorite horror flick and Carpenter film.
