Video encode is better, but audio is worse. In this case so much worse, if you have DV the SF is pretty much the best option as of right now. In my opinion, anyway.

Ok, nice. I have DV. :-)

On a side note, DV really seem to be a magic kind of bullet that can save crappy encodes.

How does a bad encode look versus a good one? Is it noise, macroblocking etc?

Once you notice you never go back either. I either should've never figured out what a bad encode is, or I should've before buying all the SF discs I have.

Before you do, something is said to be in the works regarding the Rambo films, so there might be an even better encoded disc on the way soon!

French steel arrived. The Amazon listing said it didn’t include the English OG mono, but when I received it it said original mono on the cover. As this is Lionsgate’s UHD transfer then I assumed it was the same downmix heard on their UHD. Nope, it’s the OG mono alright…and it sounds so bad. Not source wise but encoding wise, I wish I knew the name of this particular effect but anything high-pitched sounds really tinny and distorted, it’s so awful it makes the track unlistenable to me. Yes I only have TV speakers, yes my hearing has itself been damaged by this hobby, and yes I have a chest infection right now which is clogging up my noggin something fierce, but goddamn they’ve messed up the mono track. *le sigh* Even when you actually get the OG it’s borked in some way.

Geoff, how do you feel about the Lionsgate color timing and the encode on that new French disc? I had been curious about that release but I recently got a closer look at the back cover and saw that it was copyrighted 2018 Lionsgate, so my curiosity ended with that.
