I think I might give up on my search of a solo copy of the 35th Anniversary remastered BD with the mono from the Shout set. The compression on the Shout 4K sucks but I'm starting to feel that it's not bad enough to prefer the prior restoration. Shots that show the blue sky where the compression flaws are most apparent do not really occur all that often and there are no lingering sky shots to focus on, they're just there as the background and not the focus of attention while watching. The generation loss? that comes with the prior master combined with the lack of original audio and more drab colors...I'm leaning towards just rolling with the Shout 4K from now on.

But no really. While I think the Shout 4K has the better restoration, the Lionsgate 4K has better a better encode. |

The Lionsgate release has the Criterion commentary and better artwork I believe. I don’t own it but that’s what I remember hearing.
The Shout release does have a commentary with the same participants though I think. Maybe Debra Hill is missing. |

Debra Hill is missing. She’s only on the 1995 Criterion commentary. The Scream Factory has the other two commentaries (one from 2013 with John Carpenter and Jamie Lee Curtis, and another from 2014 with Dean Cundey, Tommy Lee Wallace, and Nick Castle).
