Not to mention I only need to turn my sound system up tot 20 on Atmos but 32 on mono to get close to the same pleasure.
You ever listen to a song a hundred times and then when you see the band live it just sounds different? Not necessarily better or worse, it just has a different character to it? It's sort of like that. It has a lot to do with level setting for the different sound effects in the movie that all add up to a very specific sound. When you get very used to that sound, it doesn't matter how much fuller it may sound in a ground-up remix from the original stems or how many speakers it comes out of. It just sounds different, and therefore "off."

It's just a matter of preference. But when that preference is continually left off of the discs for no good reason it can make the people who prefer it a little salty about it. If studios would always include it alongside the remixes (which I usually prefer, myself) then it wouldn't be an issue.

Huh? Cundey had nothing to do with the original Blu-ray. Someone else re-colored the 1999 DVD and had Cundey sign off on it and as far as I know Cundey never had anything to do with any other grades until the 35th Anniversary Blu-ray.

As for grading to unmatch prints and such, that's not really how grading is done and Eastman prints from that era faded at a very fast rate so they wouldn't be a good reference even in 2007 or whatever.

Yeah going from mono to even 5.1, let alone Atmos, takes a lot of creative decisions in the sound design that are going to end up being a different experience. There’s room for both, but keeping the original mix in these situations is vital.

I was just about to comment too. Idk why people keep saying Dean Cundey personally supervised every DVD and Blu-ray release when that wasn't the case.

Is there a thread for Halloween 5? I thought all these UHDs got their own thread but I can’t seem to find one to discuss H5 in.
