Hard to believe something so simple is apparently so hard to get right.

I think H4 has the worst mask though. Though H20’s isn’t far behind (especially the ridiculous shot with the obvious CG mask).

For me H5, H20, and Resurrection have the worst masks.

Yep. I made that gif since I could never find it online and like to bust it out on occasion. That’s the original H20 mask in that shot, which isn’t as good as the main one, (not that the main one is anything to write home about. It’s quite bad). In my opinion that is the most ridiculous and non-threatening shot of Myers in the entire series.

Add 4 and I agree completely, the Halloween 5 mask is just so lame and boring and the Resurrection one gives me nightmares from my childhood

Damn, it’s like the actor put zero effort in. He’d definitely kill me though because I don’t find that intimidating at all lol.

This is a shot from Halloween 1978 with the cutaways to Laurie removed. Nick Castle (I assume) isn't doing much to be intimidating. Obviously the physique is distinctive. But it's the angle, the lens, the distance and the proportions (and of course the editing in the actual scene) that make it intimidating.

TLDR. Don't blame the actor too much. Steve Miner is clearly no John Carpenter.

I'd add in the score, too.

Watching it on mute does not have nearly the same effect as hearing it with the music.

How does it look and sound? Is it the Lionsgate 4K master?

I remember the official website, in all of its infancy at that point in time, running a poll to see if the fans wanted to a sequel to H20 or another anthology sequel while H8 was in development. From what I remember, the fans overwhelmingly voted in favour of having a sequel to H20. Knowing what we know about how the Weinsteins operated nowadays, I do wonder if they ever actually gave serious thought to doing a standalone film after how much money H20 made.

Honestly, bless him for helping finance the first film, but I think he shares a lot of the blame in turning the franchise into a cash grab, and that ultimately cumulated in Resurrection. His other big blunder (which he admitted to) was rushing H5 into production immediately after H4 came out, without a completed script.

Still, Dimension deserves some blame for not creating a much better and more creative film around the parameters they were given. There’s no excuse for that turkey.
I do appreciate that Malek Akkad doesn't seem to care about that clause. Both of the timelines that have occurred under him have ended with a definitive death for Michael, even the one that had the Weinsteins involved.

The logical solution (looking at it decades removed from the situation, of course) would've been to just do Resurrection as a standalone sequel. Whenever I do rewatch it, I typically just start after the Laurie segment and just treat it as a fun B-movie.

I think Malek is more lenient about the clause because he knows he can just reboot the franchise and have 500 timelines. I wonder if Moustapha even realized that H20 ignores 4-6. He seemed to want to keep Myers alive not because he loves the character, but because he wanted to keep making money off him.

All of this. Plus the eerie music of course. Funny how Carpenter's only direction towards Nick in that scene was "Nick, just walk". Carpenter and Cundey truly knew how to set up a shot and what creates suspense and fear.

Amazing shot! I always wondered what Michael was doing when she was screaming for the neighbors or anyone to help? I mean he just broke through the door and was right there, but it took him a while to come out
