I loved the way David Robert Mitchell inverted almost everything from this scene in the opening scene of It Follows. Instead of running to a house for safety, at night, with nobody around except the maniac chasing her. It's broad daylight, there are people in the street offering her help, her father is there, and she's trying to stay out of the sanctuary of her home, except to fetch her keys and flee again. The only not inverted thing is the score, which is similarly great. (I remember laughing out loud in the cinema when the movie faded in. Might as well have said "Haddonfield" along the bottom of the screen. )

No “Michael Myers” (as in, never naming or revealing anything about The Shape) and just starting fresh with a stand alone movie. “Halloween” is great because of its simplicity, not its lore.

People get so hung up on lore. It’s seriously overrated.

I was led to believe that Criterion doesn’t have the rights to any part of any film they’d previously licensed but no longer have the rights to. Is that not the case?

The Wal-mart exclusive slipcover edition that everyone was so excited about is now no longer available on the Wal-mart website.

Knowing what we know about how the Weinsteins operated nowadays, I do wonder if they ever actually gave serious thought to doing a standalone film after how much money H20 made.

I do appreciate that Malek Akkad doesn't seem to care about that clause. Both of the timelines that have occurred under him have ended with a definitive death for Michael, even the one that had the Weinsteins involved.

The logical solution (looking at it decades removed from the situation, of course) would've been to just do Resurrection as a standalone sequel. Whenever I do rewatch it, I typically just start after the Laurie segment and just treat it as a fun B-movie.
Yeah I remember that site, I voted for another “Halloween 3” on the site.

I would be interested in seeing a movie that features segments of Michael leading up to his first murder in ‘63 and of events during the 15 years he was locked up.

There's an issue with that. The implication is that there were no signs of anything wrong with Michael.

Also, according to Loomis... Michael spent 15 years as a docile, even ideal patient. Virtually catatonic, causing no problems... My biggest issue with Halloween II is the way it changes history. This prequel idea, in order to be anything remotely entertaining, would have to completely ignore everything the original movie establishes.

The lore is beyond repair. A clean start (not necessarily a straight remake, but a film that could function as a remake or as a standalone sequel) is the best course of action if they want to do another Shape movie.

Michael Myers, as a character, is beyond repair. The Shape is eternal.

So, Rob Zombie's remake? We already have that movie, but instead of the 60s and early 70s, it's set in the grungey 90s. No thanks to a prequel. We don't need to know what happened in Michael's home life or his time locked up. That's the thing about him; everything was idyllic until he killed his sister, and during his time locked up, he was the ideal patient.

Michael doesn't need a Freudian excuse or sympathetic backstory. He simply is. He is different from Jason and Freddy in that regard, and to be honest, he should stay that way.

New movie should open with Laurie at a bar with Judy Greer Anthony Michael Hall and other people who died in the last trilogy talking about all the stories they've heard about Michael since 1978. One was about Michael being Luarie's brother, one about some dumb cult, one had him as a hillbilly, and that there are tons of made-up stories. Then have Laurie say, "this is the best one of all," and start a new movie. Just make Michael the boogeyman with a bunch of legends and we'll never know which is the true story of what happened after the original.

I understand your point but I feel Michael’s past before age 6 and during his 15 years in the sanitarium are the only interesting areas left unexplored. At this point it feels like any additional films will not be very interesting since we seen him in at least 7 films not counting the 2007-2009 and 2018-2022 films. Although I wouldn’t mind a “Michael takes Manhattan” style Halloween film set in the big city or a crossover with a Friday the 13th film.

The problem with all these ideas is Halloween never felt like it was meant for multiple movies, because it wasn’t. It was “the shape stalks and kills people” and then it ends and that was supposed to be it. It got so many sequels because of the whole cheap slasher horror genre making a lot of money in the 80s. That’s how you get “A cult brings Michael Myers back from the dead” storylines.

As much as I love Halloween, I think they just need to let the franchise rest for a while.

I would agree except most of the classic horror franchises (Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Urban Legend, Leprechaun) are dormant with no new films to look forward to.
