Same here, but as with La Matrice Warners are taking these things one movie at a time.

I really hope we get all the films, including Returns. I have a real soft spot for that one, and it desperately needs a new encode.

I'll finally be able to "believe a man can fly" in 4k/ATMOS! What a great announcement. Now all I need is the 60th anniversary of The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, the 20th anniversary of Godzilla, the 50th anniversary of The Planet of the Apes, and (no anniversary) Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan on UHD this year and I will be very happy.

I have seen the stack of cans containing the original camera negatives for ‘Superman-The Movie’ at Warner Bros., and can now confirm that a new 4K scan (with a new scanner) and remaster of the theatrical cut of ‘Superman-The Movie’ is underway at Warner Bros. #supermanthemovie4k https://t.co/yfDUazGZJO

Wasn't the original filmed through a filter? I don't think this is going to look like a reference quality disc, unless maybe they remove the filter.

Well, this news just made my day.

Hopefully the UHD will have the original audio, as well as correct colour timing (which the current theatrical blu does not have).

And -- this is not a complaint or whinge by any means -- but I would have liked to see the Expanded Edition and Extended Cut both included in 4K as well for posterity's sake. Maybe one day in the future. Happy enough for now with their current blus.

Who said it needed to be reference? The goal should be to be a noticeable improvement in video quality over what was previously available. The 4k scan of the original negatives alone should provide a better quality picture despite what filters were used.

As long as it looks like Superman The Movie then I'm good with that. "Reference" is for the people who buy this format to keep score, or to show off with. I just want the film looking as best it can within the constraints of how it was shot, lit, finished etc. Crazy, right?

We want the the release to stand for truth (to the source), justice (for those who love the film), and the American way (but they’re region free so who cares?).

I'd like to see a proper re-cut of Superman II, one that doesn't look like it was done by a 14 year old as a school project.

Right, I'm sure you'd be peachy if nothing in 4K was reference quality, and would never care to show anyone if it was. Fyi, I would never think of "keeping score" of reference quality discs (with who? ), and rarely show them off, I just care to have the film as pristine as possible.

For the record we're saying the same thing, but I don't believe for a second you don't care about any of your movies being reference quality. There's already quite a few (older) ones out there that look mind blowingly amazing.

At the very least make it A-level standard.
