The official release of the "Extended Version" of Halloween is such a mess. Some of the edits are downright laughably bad (the transition from the added sanitarium scene to "Smith's Grove, Illinois / October 30, 1978" contains music from the opening scene that wasn't properly removed, etc). The sound itself is a stereo downmix of the crappy remix with alternate sound effects added in. The date card for the added sanitarium scene is missing altogether (it's been MIA since the days of the CAV Criterion Laserdisc). It's just a shoddy job all around. I set out to fix the biggest issues I had with this edition with this edit, and made a few other improvements as well. 1. Used the "Fundamental Collection" (latest version of the spoRv) release as my baseline (I prefer the 1999 Limited Edition DVD's coloring - I know this is controversial for some Halloween fans, but if you prefer the newer Blu-ray's native colors, then move along. These colors simply better represent the film as I remember it growing up. Accurate or not, it's what I prefer. 2. Added back all of the TV scenes. Again, I know this is controversial and most people prefer the theatrical cut. I grew up with these scenes as part of the movie, and I can't watch it without them without feeling that something is missing. Again, just my opinion. 3. Extended the theme music during the opening credits to continue playing after the children finish their Halloween chant. The only time the film was shown this way was on the extended television airings. It was also part of the rare VHS release containing the TV version. I had completely forgotten about this until I grabbed the rip of the VHS release as a timing reference. I decided that I really enjoyed this alternate take on the opening, with the music accompanying the opening tracking shot to the house before fading out. I figured, since this is an alternate version of the film already, why not have this change there as a little Easter egg for fans that will notice it? 4. Reinstated the "Smith's Grove, Illinois" and "May 1, 1964" cards before the extra sanitarium scene. I made these cards from scratch - font, sized and matched to the other scene cards in the film. The VHS copy of the TV cut was used for a perfect timing match on the fade ins and fade outs of the cards. 5. Removed the bad sound edit after the added sanitarium scene (no residual music in my edit). 6. Reinstated the original mono soundtrack throughout. The lone exception is the final note of the opening scene, with Michael standing there holding the knife. The sound is still the mono track, but I've time-lapsed the music cue a bit to overlap the newly-created "Smith's Grove, Illinois / May 1, 1964" title card at the same rate as the VHS copy of the TV cut. This isn't intended to replace any "proper" restoration of Halloween; this just represents my own personal "best of every element" version of the film. |

If that's the case then why has Cundey never acknowledged working on it?
Why does it say the transfer was supervised by Maria Palazzola and not Cundey? Why isn't Cundey's name included in the 'special thanks' section? |

I've been perfectly happy with my 35th Blu edition upscaled. It looks great. I find the timing much more natural than the piping hot AB release. I am foaming at the mouth to see how the 4K uhd comes out.

You won't be the only one foaming at the mouth, for when it inevitably looks different yet again to any previous version then the forums arguments and people posting photos of what leaves look like in their back yard at x time of year will begin in earnest. Yay!

Not that it matters since most of us are getting this combo for the 4k,but will the blu be the same from the 35th anniversary, or struck from the new 4k?
