Yeah I wouldn’t go expecting an Arrow announcement anytime soon. This would have been a September or October release if they had the rights for it physically.

Nothing definite, but the 4k from Lionsgate is apparently OOP in the UK, so surely somebody has acquired the rights?

And would they really make a custom Arrow logo just for a digital copy? I know it's not much effort, but doesn't seem like something they'd do normally.

Can't wait until we get Arrow's release of Halloween (John Carpenter, 1978) on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray Disc.™️

If they have it, we won’t know until next year. Arrow Video isn’t going to release Halloween on a random month of the year.

I don’t think anyone was expecting it be coming very soon from Arrow. But for those of you who don’t believe a physical release is coming from them, who do you suppose will it come from in the UK?

Digital rights = Arrow.

Physical release = someone else?? Why? Or out of print forever?

You could probably ask the Australian company. A lot of times British and Australian companies use the same discs. Berserk (1997) is Madman Entertainment and on the UK MVM Entertainment the same discs, menus and Madman spot before it starts.

Imprint is almost certainly not going to reveal that, if they even know who has the UK physical rights. But it stands to reason that it’s Arrow.

They may, all one has to do is send an email or call Them and ask. If you plant in a series of questions about up coming releases then just say something like "I'm in the UK, do you know who has the here, just out of curiosity?" And they may oblige or say who they think does. The easiest way to find if Arrow does in fact have the rights would be to contact the previous studio and ask them if they're gonna release an UHD. If not and they state they no longer own the rights, then ask who does. Or just wait for the BBFC to rate any new extras ad which someone here will most likely post if when it happens.

Release dates aren't "random" when they aren't in holiday theme with movie. If it's released it'll be released when they clear a date for it.

I guarantee you they won’t be releasing Halloween in February or March…etc. if they have it it will be a fall release. It always is.

My money says the acquisition was pretty recent (I assume it was pretty recent for Imprint as well). I don’t think Arrow would rush through a Halloween release, especially since something is always lacking on every single release of this film.

Either the mono is left off, or the encoding is weak, or an extra is omitted, etc. Also they know how saturated the market is with Halloween releases. If they’re gonna do it, they need to do it properly. Their offering needs to stand out, and they know it.

With this film’s history, I see them doing their research and getting everything lined up before announcing anything.

For me, this would mean…

A flawless transfer (which we have) and encode (which we don’t).
The best available audio.
The best compilation of bonus material (granted, Imprint got this part right, but… it’s not like there was much actual work to do other than getting clearances).

And before anyone says they should get rid of Jamie Lee’s HorrorHound doc, I object since I’m briefly on screen with her.

All three cuts in high quality (the upscaling on the TV scenes in the extended cut could be improved, plus the extended encode on the Shout disc is… rough; the broadcast cut needs its geometry fixed and some of the commercial break fade-outs last far too long… it could also use some selective DNR for the tape artifacts) The alternate cuts could use subtitles.

I’d also love for there to be an alternative remix with the original, unscrewed score (as an option, not in place of the mono). But that’s a pipe dream.

IF the acquisition was recent, they have a lot of things to line up before dating the release, let alone announcing it.

If they have the rights, they will probably wait until next year I would guess. I'd be so mad if I had bought that Imprint edition just to have Arrow release another one with a better transfer again

Kyle knows something.

Is it that you know which boutique (not Arrow!!!) is releasing Halloween (1978) in the UK? Is it Shameless? No wait, let me guess, it’s Second Run.

No, wait. It has to be 101 Films.

I mentioned this a few pages back myself. Sure it’s likely but not guaranteed.

Arrow will put up pre-orders in October but they will send Michael to your home on Halloween so you have to survive to get the disc.

It'd be worth fending off Michael for one night to get a Fidelity encode and restored mono
