It seems as if there's a perfect transfer of this film in an ideal realm that we can only aspire to match but never will.
The issue is the compression on the Shout disc, not the transfer. Two different matters.

Yeah, I've watched it twice this season already, and the transfer itself is glorious. I don't really have many issues with it at all, honestly, with the DolbyFixIt in place and the mono played loud... but I would prefer an unfiltered version of that original audio track, of course. If there weren't all these comparison videos all over the internets, I would never know what I was missing and I'd be completely happy with what I've got!

I love Halloween, but after buying the VHS, DVd, 15 film set, the digit blu, the Lionsgate 4k and the Scream 4k... Enough is enough for me.

Did you buy the new Wal*Mart slipcover edition by any chance? Wondering what the artwork on the disc face looks like. Underneath the slip is the OG artwork, not the heinous Shout artwork (just saw on eBay).

If Arrow does release the OG, I'm gonna have to make one last purchase.

Well what you don't know is that #7 is the 2018 movie, and #10 is the RZ version.

Both misses and proves the point.

I absolutely understand what you're saying, it doesn't apply here.

Money is money and when I have an option not to settle for less I wait. It's not a matter of perfection. (Remember the Silence of The Lambs situation? Yes? No?) So no, you simply don't know what you're talking about and simultaneously misrepresenting what we said. Par for the course/tale as old as time/etc.

Actually, I think you missed the point. You seemingly don't understand the difference between the 'transfer' and 'compression' making that kind of comment. You keep referring to "perfect transfer". Hardly anyone is really complaining about the transfer. Many (most?) would agree it's quite damn good. In my opinion, they've never nailed down the color, shadows, or range any better before. The encoding/compression is rather poor especially on HDR10. No one is asking for it to be perfect, but just adequate and even average perhaps?

But this is why people are excited about the upcoming Imprint as it will be encoded by FiM and actually will be encoded "perfectly". So yeah, a "perfect" release is probably coming in that regard believe it or not. Go figure.

To add to this, if I looked for perfection I wouldn't have a collection. Not every release is perfect but quite a bit...actually are! Granted, I don't have to own everything. When a turd hits the porcelain it's not a joyous moment and pretty disappointing. Imprint coming out swinging with a FiM disc is heavenly! Audio situation not accounted for? I can live with that, a Criterion audio remux saves the day. That is better than nothing actually.

Compression isn't real. What we see on every UHD is a 1:1 representation of the 8TB master file.
