DVD didn't have green tint at all. It had yellow-brown tint. Theatrical print, based on numerous evidence, didn't have green tint in some scenes, or had it more subdued/natural.

not doubting what you say, just real curious in all honesty.

there is an initial theatrical version that all studios hold unto, with the high percentage chance that they will never used again (unpopular not in demand movies). BEFOREthey do a digital grade? sound like a waste of resources, amirite.
When you're also trying to sell a new format (DVD in this situation), it might be not best to use a dark looking interpositive with funny colors. Scanning the negative and all its details to create a much brighter and vivid looking version seems more like a viable bet.

Well, I dunno. I bought the 10th anniv edition blu-ray, and that scene rocks out on my setup. Mine is pro calibrated with REW by someone that knows what they are doing. The subs most definitely push some air during the lobby shootout.

I usually find myself missing my subs at the local cinema though, which is why I don't go anymore.

Interesting. I find the sub over powering on most movies so usually have it quite low. I just can't get it sounding nice on this film. Maybe it only works on expensive equipment!

Not to get too far off topic, have you ever considered Spears and Munsil 2 Blu-ray (has audio test tones) and setting your sub level with an SPL meter?

S.J.R.: Was that what happened with the first Matrix? There was a big special edition of that coming out that then got pulled.

Lord Joel: Yeah, we decided to do it now. The boys always wanted to re-transfer the first film. They weren't really happy with it. They always thought it was too light. They didn't really have the time then.
Granted, Silver has a big mouth and might just wanted to sell the new transfer, but I do recall the Wachowskis saying they just wanted to chill after the film was finally released, because of how burned out they felt. (Also considering they were forced to participate in the press junket process - which is something they hate and made sure to make it part of their contracts they won't be doing interviews once they became successful; so that too must have sucked their energy, that I can believe they might just have not been closely involved with the DVD transfer).

Quote:
But if The Matrix makes Reeves a star once again, the Wachowskis say their professional future is the last thing on their minds. Exhausted by the movie’s five-year odyssey to the screen, the brothers say they’re trying not to think about the second and third installments that could follow if The Matrix is a box office success. They returned from Sydney only in November, they edited up until a week before the movie’s release, and all they want is to go home to Chicago. “Right now,” says Andy, with his Beavis chuckle, “we’ve got a date with a big bottle of booze.”

Quote:
And not surprisingly, Warner Bros. is hungry for a sequel — understandable, since the Wachowskis have said ”Matrix” is the first of a trilogy. ”From the start, they intended to create a whole universe,” says the brothers’ manager, Lawrence Mattis. But he adds that right now, the filmmakers are ”Matrix”-ed out; they’re recovering from the arduous five-year production. Says Mattis: ”My guess is (a sequel) won’t be their next movie.”

Did they modify the names/credits of the Wachowskis or did they leave them as original.
in what way does it alter the perception of the movie?

Obviously. But they generally come in a set. Plus, like I said, I watch them all together so I can just hold off and pay less down the line when I can watch the whole trilogy in 4K.

Have you ever waited for a release date, Blu-Ray.com, that you were sure was coming soon but weren't certain you could contain yourself until it arrived? What is waiting? How do you define anticipation? Sooner or later your gonna realize that the package is at your door, and your not going to know whether you should watch it immediately in the day light, or wait until the night comes so that you go to sleep immediately afterward and dream of Electric Sheep fighting Agents and Squiddies.

There is no waiting.

I want films as close to the original presentation as possible. That includes original audio mixes and opening studio credits.

Well apparently I missed the boat.

I’ll probably end up going for it, but really want the trilogy all at once. I still can’t believe $32 for a catalogue though.

Someone call Nolan, we need an unrestored 4K scan of the IP for How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days NOW!
