In case anyone was wondering, Best Buy won't have this on the shelves when stores open on Tuesday. For whatever reason Warner decided that this will bypass the new release section and go straight to the 4K wall which isn't updating until the week of 5/27.

Stores will be getting their stock for that update on Tuesday but it won't be until later in the day and you will have to ask them to grab you one.

My first impulse was to just stick the UHD next to my BD box set (the Ultimate Collection Edition) on the shelf. Now that y'all bring up the cover art, I realize I can just use two-disc slim cases in the old BD box set and stick the UHD disc in there with the BD. Problem solved.

Although I forgot about the bonus disc. Does the UHD really have two BDs included? I might have to rethink my case situation here...

AVS rating is very high. I'm surprised. Though they didn't consider Leon a reference presentation on UHD and Grease UHD is an "excellent" transfer according to their system. But The Matrix got 98. Weeew. Interesting.

Probably because of all that ugly grain artifacting getting in the way of that clear, crisp 4K image.

Speed Racer was shot in 1080p. Might not be the greatest, but the HDR would be a major benefit.

I'll bet Speed Racer will look sharper on 4K than, say, Die Hard does. It's not always about the numbers...

One review mentioned 2 discs, and the video shows 3 discs (1:25)

▪Disc 1: The Matrix Ultra HD Blu-ray
▪Disc 2: The Matrix Blu-ray
(No mention of a third disc with the Special Features)

Doesn't really matter, I want it anyway.

It’s a 3 disc set. The 3rd disc is under the Blu-ray disc on the left hand side

It's 3 discs, I think it's only the AVS review that lists the specs badly. The 4K disc has all four commentaries, the regular blu-ray of the film (presumably) has all four commentaries, and the third disc has The Matrix Revisited, the jukebox, etc etc.

I understand you put "quotes" around professional reviews....but whether you meant as a snarky comment or just a label...it's true and Ralph Potts will agree with you....he's a hobbyist who donates his time and equipment to review movies for a hobbyist site. I don't think he alludes to or calls them professional reviews.

It's nice to have someone providing an opinion before a release.

Count me as someone who's shocked that the price hasn't fallen any more on this one. Best Buy lists it at $34.99 and Amazon at $31.99. I definitely want it, but the only time I spend >$30 on a 4K disc is if it's a steelbook...and even then I hate doing it.

I know...ridiculous price for a non-steelbook!

I don’t own it on any format so thought I would go ahead and buy it regardless.
