And does the box set simply duplicate the 2007 disc? The entry on blu-ray.com doesn't have a review but links to the individual releases, including the 2007 one for Halloween. Or does the box set use a different or new transfer for Halloween?

EDIT: I'm now guessing that the box set uses the same transfer as the 35th anniversary release (which is good) while offering the original mono that was NOT offered on the 35th.

The 1999 THX DVD has the original mono mix? I always thought it was another downmix???

So, between the two audio tracks — fake mono and 7.1 — which would be “better”/more true to the original mono? Basically, which has less alterations as far as added sound effects and changed music cues?

This is really disappointing.
I don't expect the Studio Canal discs to be right, but this has a mono track, but lossy and not the right one.
It's like they tried really, really, really hard to fock it the fupp up, and then fucted it up even more.

Maybe they are just holding off on the original mono for a future release. I mean think about how many times this title has been milked out over the decades...surely this release will not be the final one on UHD BD.

Aren't they the same?...I believe there were surround mixes done previously (maybe for the THX DVD?) that were created from the original sound master and had none of the alterations...can anyone confirm or deny this or say exactly when the surround mixes with new effects and alterations first came into being, was it with the 2007 blu?

I believe if your reciever supports collapsing the 7.1 into mono it will sound the same as mono on the 4k disc. So it doesn't matter though obviously there was no surround processing on the oriignal mono.

Is this all conjecture until someone who knows what they're talking about has actually seen and heard the disc?

This is what it sound like to me. Can someone confirm so I can try, and buy just this disc (the one from the boxset) from ebay, or something? No original mono kills the UHD for me. Revisionist trash.

The theatrical version on disc 1 has the original mono. The TV version on disc 2 is a downmix.

I don't hate the current remix but its a mixed bag. One of these days I want to make a list of the biggest changes, but here are a few quickly off hand.

The original has moments a bit more tinny or hollow at times but also has stronger/clear sounding dialog at times. Especially when Annie is on the phone with Laurie.

Sometimes when Laurie screams it sounds a bit less shrill on the original.

Many sound cues on the original have stronger bass. Around Annie's death, the sound cues and stingers are better on the original.

The extra rain and thunder during intro scene with Loomis feel added.

I actually like some of the extra wind effect sounds when Laurie takes her pumpkin to the car.

The TV cut on Blu ray removes a stinger or two and has other differences from what aired in 1981.

The best original sound mix sources are the Criterion laserdisc or the TV cut Japanese laserdisc.

Yes. It has the 35th anniversary transfer with the original mono as a Dolby TrueHD 2.0 track.

Best release so far. How frustrating. I don't even know how to complain to Lionsgate.

These are the same people that listed Hell or High Water was equipped with Atmos so it’s not shocking. I’m surprised I haven’t read more comments about the exclusion of Atmos.

Hello mods. I see you took my advice literally and removed the Spanish Resen disc from the database, but just FYI you guys are gonna have to do that with pretty much everything that Resen have released if you wanna be consistent...

I don't want to derail the thread by talking about the box set too much, but how are the PQ and AQ for the rest of the titles in the box, especially for Halloween II and III? Is the box set considered good overall? Not sure I want to buy it if it's only good for the first movie.

Are both commentaries from disc one of the 15 disc set ported over to the 4k disc? Trying to figure out if I need that disc anymore.

Anyhoo, my order of Halloween, Punisher and American Psycho has been dispatched from deep discount. Should get here by the end of the month, and despite the mono foul-up (gotta love Bill Hunt inadvertently confirming that it was the downmix, good save lol) I'm still very keen to see the 4K. I might go full revisionist when I watch that one, being 4K HDR with 7.1 sound, and will reserve the edition that shall not be named for a proper old-school SDR mono experience.

I'll just stick with my 1999 THX DVD from Anchor Bay. Imo the best color timing and the original mono mix.
