With the yellow tint? No thank you.

There are so many things wrong with the color timing on that disc and the original BD.

I really wanted the ATMOS option (which would contain the core 7.1 mix) along with the original 1978 MONO Track in an uncompressed format.

As long as original audio options are available everyone has a choice.

They are the best looking they have been so far, but SF are releasing 4K remasters Of II and 3 in a few weeks.

Also of note, the Halloween II Shout! disc in the box set does not have the original audio instead having a mono downmix encoded in 2.0 and this was never addressed in a replacement program.

The only Blu-ray that currently has the original Halloween II audio in 2.0 stereo is the universal Blu-ray (its cheap - https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Hallo...Blu-ray/19651/ ), which is a dirtier print but also a bit less processed. Just make sure you get the CORRECTED universal disc because the first H2 Universal disc mistakenly didn't have lossless audio. Amazon carries the correct H2 Universal discs.

SO IMO, right now your best bet is:

Halloween Boxset + Halloween II Universal Disc (corrected)

This is the only way to get the correct audio on Halloween I & II.

Whether the H2/H3 a/v on the upcoming Shout! steels will be better is yet to be seen, as they seem hit and miss. While Lifeforce saw some decent gains, Platoon actually looks worse than the first Blu-ray. If Shout! simply ports over the 2.0 they used in H2 in the box set, again it will not be the correct original audio.

I really think this was unintentional. Someone from AB probably didn't convey the right information to Lionsgate, and they transferred the wrong file to them.

Although I still want to know why such a thing as a mono downmix of a 7.1 track even exists. 2-channel stereo I understand, but mono?

I'm not 100% certain, but I think the 7.1 on the 35th Anniv BD is essentially the same as the 5.1 that's been out there since the '99 DVD, just with some slight expansion into the rear surrounds. The extra sound effects were definitely there on the '99 DVD.

Maybe if we heckle them on social media they will put together a replacement program? Oh nevermind its Lionsgate.

Maybe someone should try making out with the disc to see if they can transmit the mono that way.

Again, not quite. The 2007 BD of the first film DOES have the original mono, just lossy and with the older transfer.

That disc was not good though videowise as you stated. I actually didn't even know it was still in print.

Aye, I don't think that the inclusion of it was intentional in any way, shape or form. They just made the same mistake that Anchor Bay did with the 35th BD, humans gonna human.

It may not be officially, but it's not that hard to find.

Still, I prefer the look of the 35th myself

Okay thanks, I wasn't sure myself. I vaguely remembered the 5.1 on the THX still having the click of the empty chamber at the end, and the proper speeding up of the music after the "Hey Jerk, speed Kills" parts which I associate with the original sound and which were nixed in the later surround mix but again I'm probably misremembering.

Do we think it was a mistake the first time or did Anchor Bay release the 35th spec early doors and then not manage to track down the original mono in time and just downmixed the surround mix they had at hand to meet the spec???

No doubt I'm being far too cynical and conspiratorial but as someone already mentioned why would you even fold a 7.1 to mono in the first place!
