Well I just finished the movie. It gets my stamp of approval, violent non stop action with lots of winks and pokes at itself and the source material. Frankly I was astonished that they came up with something that worked at all, given with what little story they had to work with. The 1980s video game holds a very special place in my childhood. I played it a whole lot, but there is another dimension to my history with the game. I had, and still have, really bad anxiety which manifested itself when I was six, causing panic attacks and becoming sick at unpredictable times. I saw a child therapist and he taught me a breathing technique where I would calm myself down, and think about the game.
I still use it to this day, and even with all the games I have played in the last 30 years, I still think about Rampage. I am sharing this story so that when I say that the movie made me feel like I was six again, smashing buildings and eating little pixel people, you will understand what that means to me. Video was fine. Not the best 4k disc I have seen, but it looks better than other 2k upscales, so I’m happy. HDR was used well. The last 30 minutes or so is very grey, due to all the rubble, so when there’s an explosion it pops well. Audio was fantastic, lots of directionality and rear speaker usage, it really felt like Chicago was falling apart around me. I would give the disc a combined 7/10, taking the movie and technical aspects into account. Might not be for everyone at the current price, but for me it’s worth it. |

My biggest disappointment with the movie was, not ONCE did any of the creatures 1) eat a toilet and spit it out, or 2) touch a fuse box and get zapped.
GOSH what a wasted opportunity! ![]() |

The guy watched this on an LG LCD. Don't put too much stock in his opinion.
Take it from me, the image quality is very good. It's not a top tier UHD disc, and the color grading is more muted, but it looks very nice. I watched it on an LG OLED and a high end FALD. |

You are right, it is a huge missed opportunity. George would have been the one to do it, since his size ratio to a toilet/fuse box would have made the most sense. Lizzy and Ralph were just too hostile for that kind of comedy to shine through as well.

I rented the BD (I refuse to buy Warners overpriced 4K) Looked really nice
I enjoyed it. I don't quite understand why the croc is so big. A gorilla is bigger than a crocodile so assuming they grow at the same rate the gorilla should be bigger. Still it's just a movie I guess. Does Jeffrey Dean Morgan play the same character in everything he does? I kept thinking "why is Nagin in this movie?" I might buy it when it gets down to about $15-20 |

This movie could have used a movie... it felt like the longest trailer in history. Never thought id say this, but the tranformers sequels had more meat to them than this did. Shame too as i really wanted to like it. Was at least expecting some major 4k hdr eye candy, but even that was meh.

Getting pretty annoyed that Best Buy no longer seems to be properly honoring their pre-order price guarantee, which clearly states, like Amazon, you get charged the lowest price between when you order and release date. I pre-ordered this at $34.99. I know it dropped to $29.99 at one point. And yet I still got charged the full $34.99. Bogus. They also shipped The Quick and the Dead like one day before it dropped to $19.99, so I got charged the full price even though it was &19.99 on release date.
Come on, BB. You gotta do better than this if I’m gonna keep ordering from you! |
