Same here, hence the confusion.

Just hope you can watch the uncut version of the remake on the 4K UHD.

So much conversation over the word 'The'. Not one single person I know calls this movie The Evil Dead. When referring to this movie in conversation, I feel like most people would just say 'Evil Dead'. Then when referring to the new one would say 'the new Evil Dead'.

What are the differences between the original and uncut versions? Just curious if it's a difference in story, pacing, or if they cut out some of the gorier bits.

This is true, but regardless, the official title of the original film is "The Evil Dead", and the official title of the remake is "Evil Dead". So if a listing simply says "Evil Dead", it suggests that it is either the remake, or those putting up the listings are either lazy or unaware there's technically a difference in naming between the two films.

As far as which version is it, if it's the remake, we need both the theatrical and unrated versions. If it's the original, we need both aspect ratios. The original is one film that has many people in both camps, and many like both aspect ratios for this film. They are both legitimate aspect ratios in this case and both have their own merits, so the UHD should contain both versions. It has nothing to do with "filling the screen".

Excuse my ignorance, but is there possibly a contact number at a studio that would say which film it is?

I'm curious to know as well!

You could try tweeting @Lionsgateathome. There's additional contact information at http://lionsgatepublicity.com/ , although I'm not comfortable posting someone's email address or phone number on the forum myself.

Well that was easy! I called and talked to a very polite woman who put me on a very brief hold and then confirmed it is the 1981 film being released on 4K UHD.

Bill Hunt just reported that Evil Dead 2 on 4K UHD will be released by Lionsgate. Possibly in October. Maybe we will get both on October 9.

That's why composition matters, and isn't something that cinematographers and directors just arbitrarily do. Composition is carefully planned for a reason, which most people don't understand.

And while most films don't get cropped, it's a shame so many great TV shows are being cropped to 1.78 so people can "fill their screens."

Awesome! Hopefully we'll get Army of Darkness and Evil Dead in the near future as well.

Vary nice job man, and fellow members. So happy to find out it's the 1981. Yeah this is a great year so far for me, maybe the best for collecting and buying.

Oh my! The 1981 film is one of my all-time favourites. Absolutely love it.

Correct-o. It's often heard in my household (speaking to my wife): "I'm watching The Evil Dead tonight, hun. You better find something else to do."

Me every day: "Hey, honey. Tonight I will be watching The Evil Dead, 1981, originally filmed in 1979 as Book of the Dead by writer-director Sam Raimi, followed by two sequels in 1987 and 1993 respectively, before receiving a remake in 2013 simply titled Evil Dead."

Gotta be specific about these things.
