Did you threatened Shout Factory? I wouldn't doubt it, so they hurried up and corrected the alleged defect specially for you because, they were afraid that you were going to bomb their facility if they didn't. Don't you realize how extreme that was? This is is exactly what I'm talking about, and you've just validated my point! If this is what you've allowed yourself to go through, I would just throw in the towel, and stop buying and watching blu-ray movies period, because, it's not worth putting yourself into an early grave over. We don't live in a perfect world, and everything is NOT going to be perfect all the time... If a defected Blu-ray bother you that much to the point of going to this extreme of continually contacting and harassing a manufacturer about a defected bluray, then there is something else that's a lot more serious going on than Blu-rays, and it's not good.

Anybody pick this up at any Best Buy’s yet? The app lists it as Sold Out, but maybe stores only got 2 or less of this item?

I didn't see it on the shelf and, for a change, it looks like they did put out this week's releases. Tyrok didn't have it on the list of new releases that would be in-store, either.

I did see it at one Target even though Brickseek and the site are showing it as not being in stock. They had 4 copies. I'm not sure if there is shelf space for it, but I saw it in a cart full of stuff they hadn't put out yet.

Okay so only 1 out of the 4 films is a total stinker? I might bite, then. I was worried about them maybe re-releasing the whole set in UHD if I get this lol but I feel like Warner has no interest in doing 4k UHDs for parts 3 and 4.

Interesting about Superman II, I'm dying to check it out now. I have a thing for movies with troubled production histories/alternate cuts so I think I'll really enjoy that.

Yeah I think I'll get this. And if I order it before noon it'll get here today with Prime.

I'll let you know what I think of the films hah.

If you have not seen the other 3 films don't worry too much and yes, only 4 is the real stinker of the bunch. IMO 2 is better than the original and while 3 jumps the shark a few times, it has enough well done action scenes to save the film overall. 4 is not 100% totally awful, it just comes off exhausted and extremely cheap. Otherwise for a four film series this is a very solid collection. Also, my hunch is we won't ever see a 4k collection set. Maybe (and hopefully) we get 2 in 4K but i feel like the studios don't think enough of 3 & 4 to put them out in 4K. But stranger things have happened !

I'm really disappointed that the Blu-Ray in the combo pack is an old transfer and not the new 4K. I have a 4K TV in my living room, but I'd enjoy the standard Blu-Ray on my 1080 projector in my theater room. Same thing happened with the new UHD combo pack of Halloween.

You might consider the panisonic ub820, does well with hdr and projectors in regards to tone mapping

Think of the Donner Cut as a half finished film and you will enjoy it for what it is. It is cut in such a way as to allow Donner to retain full directorial credit, which damages some of the flow, and is a peek at what it might have been if the turn back time ending hadn't been stuck on the end of Superman: The Movie.

The only way to finish the film would be to add some of Lester's footage to some of Donner's and use Lester's Paris, Niagara Falls, and country town battle sequences and ending, but that may sadly never happen. Maybe tone down some of the sillier Lester moments during the final battle in Metropolis too. I would also add the cut scene (taken out of both cuts, but included in the ABC broadcast years ago) of the Kryptonian bad guys killing the kid as it adds weight to their evilness.

The only real benefit of the Donner Cut is seeing Marlon Brando's reinsertion as his father at the Fortress.

I popped into a local Best Buy to pick up a copy of the Incredibles 2 4k steelbook (had to get a pristine copy) and no Superman 4k, Air Force One 4k, nor the Phantasm steelbook. I ordered the former two from Amazon so I was just curious. Sad but you can get Van Wilder, etc. on 4k in store but not these

All these brick n mortar or online big box stores are trying their darndest to kill off physical media as they all have some connection to streaming services.

That has been asked and answered multiple times in this thread.

The standard Blu-ray included with the 4K Blu-ray is the OLDER transfer. Warner did NOT use the new 4K transfer to replicate a new standard Blu-ray version. ONLY the 4K Blu-ray was created with the new 4K transfer.

Adding further craziness to the mix....

In the U.S. (and, perhaps, other countries) the version of the film on the standard Blu-ray in the 4K package is the THEATRICAL version.

In the U.K. (and, perhaps, other countries) the version of the film on the standard Blu-ray in the 4K package is the SPECIAL EDITION version.

But BOTH of them (on the standard Blu-ray) are the older transfers.

Mark

So, is the Blu-ray included with the 4K UHD remastered or not?

No, they're not. It's just that they need the space for all the other stuff they are selling. Mainly cell phones. They have no stake in streaming. If that were the case they would be selling top of the line TVs since most people that stream don't give a shit about the picture quality.

Yeah I’m sure SF was afraid that I would carry out a terrorist attack at their facilities. No they did it because everyone else was calling them out for their bullsh*t pathetic excuse of a remaster on the original mono track.

And in the end what happened? I got what I wanted. They reissued the discs. So again where’s your point??

I love how you hate that people “complain” on here yet you b*tch and whine in this massive paragraph that I couldn’t even be bothered to read.

There was an oddity a while back on iTunes where their version of The Donner Cut contained this scene. That was the only change, and at the time, it got some speculating that maybe there was another release being worked on. I have this version, and it's definitely interesting seeing it added back into the film. I call it "The Donner Cut (Extended)". I THINK Apple corrected the "error", but I'm not 100% sure. It MAY still be available.

You call bullshit on what exactly? I gave one Godard film as an example of cinema not always being meant for “entertainment” purposes, and Tout va bien is certainly one of those films. I never said Godard’s films as a whole, I literally said one film of his but ok...

Really? I saw Air Force One everywhere (Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy), but Superman was only at one Target. I should've made someone at Best Buy look, but I didn't even think it was worth asking.

Did they actually have it on the shelf or did someone have to go fetch it?

You're most welcome. Yeah, I can't see you NOT really enjoying Superman II. It's so much fun. Honestly, I'd probably check out the theatrical cut first. I love some of the things in the Donner Cut, but the theatrical version is frankly a more finished film. Donner Cut certainly has strengths as well, though. I usually flip a coin as far as which one to watch.

Some people really hate Superman III, but I've never understood the hate. It's definitely goofier than the first two, but it's still a ton of fun, and Reeve is maybe at his best as Supes in it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you go in not expecting a film as strong as the first two.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on them all!

Found this at Target for $24.99. Brickseek said 0 copies in stock, but they were in a box on a cart in electronics waiting to be put out.
